ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta Public Schools is adding seven new community hubs to support its students and families. As the district plans to close 11 underutilized schools to save about $20 million in operational costs. Dr. Chelsea Montgomery, the district’s senior adviser of operational efficiency, said the idea all started on a sticky note two years ago. APS leaders found a purpose for the old Oglethorpe Elementary School, and the first community hub offering clothes and food was born.
