Structure-informed evolutionary analysis of the meiotic recombination machinery
Abstract Despite being essential for fertility, many proteins involved in meiotic homologous recombination have diverged rapidly. The evolutionary forces driving this divergence remain mostly unknown, in part because of challenges in accounting for the interplay of sequence changes with constraints imposed by proteins' structures and physiological roles.
A co-evolved peptide-GPCR system senses host entry to drive fungal infection
Abstract A successful infection requires pathogens to recognize the specific host environment in order to reprogram their physiology accordingly. One major way in which eukaryotic cells sense their surroundings is via G-Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs), which share a seven-transmembrane architecture and G-protein-mediated downstream signaling. While mammalian GPCRs are well-characterized and represent important drug targets, their fungal counterparts remain poorly understood.
Independent association of the CHG index with cardiometabolic multimorbidity: real-world evidence from community and clinical datasets
|
Abstract Background: Cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) is an increasing public health challenge in aging populations. The cholesterol–high-density lipoprotein–glucose (CHG) index is an emerging metabolic marker, but its association with prevalent CMM has not been sufficiently evaluated across community and hospitalized populations. This study examined the association between CHG and CMM using clinical and China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) data.

KT-253, a highly potent and selective MDM2 protein degrader, eliminates malignant myelofibrosis stem/progenitor cells
Abstract Approximately 96% of myelofibrosis (MF) patients express wild-type (WT) p53. MF hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) overexpress MDM2 that degrades WTp53, thereby supporting MF HSPC survival.
Permissive but not causative: layer-specific LHCGR alterations in ovarian aging
Abstract The ovary is among the earliest organs to show clinically consequential age-related decline. The luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) mediates the trophic actions of LH and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the ovary, and reduced receptor abundance has sometimes been invoked as a possible explanation for age-related loss of LH responsiveness.

Cooperative mechanism of neurotransmitter recognition and transport by the human vesicular polyamine transporter
Abstract Human vesicular polyamine transporter (hVPAT) from the SLC18 antiporter family sequesters polyamine neuromodulators into secretory vesicles in exchange for H+ in the brain, thereby sustaining learning and memory formation. As a potential therapeutic target for combatting psychostimulant use disorder, hVPAT (or SLC18B1) regulates the homeostasis of monoamine neurotransmitters via an unknown mechanism.
Intracellular iron homeostasis-regulated epigenetic reprogramming contributes to −7/del(7q) leukemia
Abstract Chromosome copy number variations are poorly understood drivers of human malignancies. −7/del(7q) is common in acute myeloid leukemia, confers a poor prognosis, and is thought to harbor several tumor suppressors. Previously, we identified the histone methyltransferase KMT2C as a tumor suppressor in this region.
Cooperative chelation for high-performance Perovskite light-emitting diodes
Abstract Molecular additives are frequently employed to enhance the performance of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), either through surface defect passivation or crystal growth control. In general, such passivation is attained through the chelation of the molecular additive to a defective Pb site along a lattice plane. Unfortunately, nano-crystallites often display multiple lattice planes and defects that a single additive is inadequate in passivating.

One-pot fabrication of high-strength Janus hydrogel for wet tissue hemostasis and intestinal/intrauterine anti-adhesion
Abstract Existing Janus hydrogels struggle to integrate high mechanical strength, bilateral asymmetric adhesion, and a simple fabrication process. Herein, we report a one-pot strategy for rapid fabrication of integral high-strength Janus hydrogels, leveraging the heterogeneous aggregation of carboxyl groups induced by sodium lignosulfonate. We characterize gelation within only 5 minutes, robust mechanical properties and bilateral asymmetric adhesion.
B cell immunity to the Lassa virus glycoprotein is a correlate of vaccination-induced virus control in mice
Abstract Lassa fever, a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the arenavirus Lassa virus (LASV), affects thousands of individuals annually, highlighting the need for a vaccine. Yet, immunological correlates of viral load control remain poorly defined. Here we study vaccination-induced immunity in a surrogate LASV challenge model in mice.
Prognostic significance and immune correlation of STING expression and promoter methylation in renal cell carcinoma
Abstract Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) typically shows resistance to immunotherapy and is associated with poor prognosis. Recent studies have revealed a role for DNA methylation in immune infiltration in different cancers, but its pattern in RCC is not well understood. In this study, we analyzed the relationships among STING promoter methylation, mRNA expression, overall survival, and immune cell infiltration in a TCGA cohort and validated the findings in an independent cohort.
