How do firms respond to biodiversity risk? Evidence from green M&As in China
ABSTRACT Drawing on Chinese A-share listed firms from 2012 to 2023, this article investigates whether biodiversity risk is associated with corporate green M&A decisions. We construct a firm-year measure of biodiversity risk reflected in annual reports using an LLM-assisted textual approach and identify green M&As from transaction disclosures. Baseline Probit estimates reveal a positive and statistically significant association between biodiversity risk and the likelihood of green M&A.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 is linked to ambient temperature-dependent regulation of pathological cardiac hypertrophy in UCP1 knockout mice
Abstract Adipocytes play an important role in the regulation of cardiovascular health and disease. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the endocrine role of brown adipose tissue (BAT) in pathological cardiac remodeling remain unclear. Herein, we show that uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)-knockout (Ucp1KO) mice exhibit reduced abdominal aorta coarctation-induced myocardial hypertrophy compared with wild-type mice in a 24 °C environment.
Climate extremes are associated with crime dynamics in China
Abstract While the societal implications of climate extremes have received considerable attention, the specific associations with crime dynamics remain unclear. Leveraging a unique nationwide crime panel dataset (over 8.6 million) parsed via large-scale textual analysis, we capture detailed offender- and case-level attributes and examine the correlation between climate extremes and crime dynamics across China’s prefecture-level cities.
Saussurea medusa Maxim extract suppresses triple‑negative breast cancer growth by disrupting mitochondrial lipid metabolism via the PPARα/CPT1A fatty acid oxidation axis
Abstract Triple‑negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks effective targeted therapies and exhibits pronounced metabolic plasticity. Mitochondrial lipid metabolism and fatty acid oxidation (FAO) represent potential vulnerabilities. We investigated the antitumor activity and mechanism of Saussurea medusa Maxim extract (SMME) in TNBC models. SMME was profiled by HPLC–HRMS. Antitumor phenotypes, including viability, apoptosis, migration, and ultrastructural changes, were evaluated in TNBC cells.
