Malic enzyme 1 senses L-lactate to determine tumor heterogeneity
Abstract L-lactate is generally elevated in tumors and acts as a signaling molecule that promotes tumor progression. Here, we reveal that malic enzyme 1 (ME1) functions as a previously unrecognized sensor of L-lactate through direct binding at arginine 155 (R155), thereby potentiating malignancy. Mechanistically, L-lactate binding promotes the nuclear translocation of ME1, a process involving reduced acetylation at lysine 362 (K362) and facilitated by nuclear import of karyopherin-α 4 (KPNA4).
High-performance tunnel-junction selectors with graded tunnel barriers based on five-layer van der Waals heterostructures Original
|
Abstract Selectors are required to unlock the potential scalability of memory crossbar arrays and achieve three-dimensional stacking. However, the development of a two-terminal, stackable selector that meets key performance metrics—including large selectivity, high endurance, fast response speed, negligible cycling variation, minimal temperature dependence and good interdevice uniformity—remains a challenge.

1 Introduction Motion is a fundamental feature of life for organisms and collectives. Behaviors include obstacle avoidance [1], hunting [2], foraging, seeking shelter [3, 4], and fertilization [5]. Across various length scales, organisms inhabiting liquid environments have evolved diverse strategies to optimize locomotion according to their specific physiological characteristics.
The association between metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease and left ventricular mass index in patients with schizophrenia with long-term hospitalization
Abstract Background: Patients with schizophrenia have a high cardiovascular risk, especially long-term hospitalized cases where physical issues are prominent due to prolonged illness, lifestyle restrictions, and antipsychotic use. Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is an independent cardiovascular risk factor, but its association with cardiac remodeling remains unclear. This study investigates this relationship to support early screening and targeted intervention.
Senescent immune cells, inflammaging, and bone loss: therapeutic potential and translational challenges of senolytics in osteoporosis
Abstract Osteoporosis is a common age-related skeletal disorder characterized by low bone mass, deterioration of bone microarchitecture, and increased susceptibility to fragility fractures. Although antiresorptive and anabolic therapies have substantially improved fracture prevention, current treatments do not fully address the aging-related biological processes that disrupt skeletal homeostasis.
EGFR mimotope alleviates renal fibrosis by promoting EGFR/RPL6/PCBP2 ternary complex formation
Abstract Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signalling plays a crucial role in renal fibrosis. We previously demonstrated that EGFR mimotope vaccination could alleviate renal fibrosis by restoring major histocompatibility complex class IB (MHC-IB) expression in renal tubular epithelial cells and promoting MHC-IB-enriched exosome release. Intriguingly, the mechanism by which the EGFR mimotope affects MHC-IB remains unknown.

Considering symptom burden and social relationships during sexual health management in ovarian suppression-treated women with breast cancer
Abstract Ovarian function suppression (OFS) treatment induces sudden menopause in women with breast cancer, leading to severe sexual issues. While overall sexual health research is limited, evidence specific to OFS-treated women is even scarcer. We aim to compare the symptom burden and interpersonal relationships of sexually active (SAW) and inactive women (SIW). A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2023 to July 2024.
Endocrine-informed monitoring of scoliosis in Prader–Willi syndrome: integrating neuroendocrine pathophysiology, growth hormone therapy, and pubertal transition
Abstract Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS) is a neuroendocrine disorder characterized by hypothalamic dysfunction, congenital hypotonia, abnormal growth trajectories, and impaired pubertal development, all of which contribute to a markedly increased risk of scoliosis, with a cumulative prevalence reaching up to 70–80% by skeletal maturity, significantly exceeding that of idiopathic scoliosis.
Favourable hydrogenation of pyridines via H 2 -adsorption modulation on Ni nanoparticles in dealuminated Beta zeolite
Abstract Hydrogenation of pyridines is particularly challenging because their strong coordination to metal sites hinders hydrogen adsorption and can poison the catalysts. Here we show that Ni nanoparticles (NPs) within zeolite crystals can overcome this problem, owing to a network of micropores that features a greater proportion of free Ni sites for hydrogen adsorption even in the presence of pyridines.
4-Hydroxyphenanthrene exacerbates obesity by altering gut microbiota and bile acid metabolism
Abstract Elevated exposure to 4-hydroxyphenanthrene (4-OHPhe) is positively associated with obesity risk. However, the specific pathogenic mechanism remains unclear. Here, we use SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and logistic regression analysis to identify a strong association between 4-OHPhe and obesity. Mechanistically, exposure to 4-OHPhe significantly downregulates the expression of hydroxylamine reductase (hcp) genes in Bacteroides uniformis (B.
Spray‐Freezing‐Templated Vertically‐Graded Macroporous Aerogel Membranes for Ultrahigh‐Flux Filtration of Polydisperse Microplastics
1 Introduction Microplastic contamination is pervasive across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments. Particles spanning submicrometer to millimeter scales are now routinely detected in urban water cycles [1, 2]. In municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), removal is distributed across primary (physical clarification), secondary (biological treatment), and tertiary/advanced stages, with the tertiary barrier serving as the final engineered safeguard before discharge [2, 3].
