8 Myths About Protein You Thought Were True
If you're baffled by the never-ending conflicting information about dietary protein, you're not alone. It's no surprise we're confused — first, we're told we only need more protein if we're exercising (and after exercise, to eat protein at the precise time for it to matter). On the other hand, we're advised to increase our protein intake if we want to shed pounds and eat high-protein foods throughout the day.
Myth Vs Fact: 8 Things Diners Need To Stop Believing About Chinese Food
Myth Vs Fact: 8 Things Diners Need To Stop Believing About Chinese Food Thesomegirl/Getty Images I recently visited China and, while on my journey, one thing became abundantly clear — there are myths about Chinese food that are categorically false. I've been a food writer for decades, but I was naive about Chinese cuisine. The beauty of the country's food (and the people making it) was apparent, and each dining experience was unique.

7 Best Foods For Good Gut Health
7 Best Foods For Good Gut Health Metamorworks/Getty Images Assuming you haven't been living under rock, you're aware of the importance of gut health. The gut (aka the gastrointestinal tract) plays a significant role in overall well-being. Not only does the gut regulate digestion, but it also affects the health of the immune system, nervous system, endocrine system, and cardiovascular system. It all boils down to your gut microbiome, the bacteria found inside your intestines.

11 Store-Bought Bone Broths, Ranked Original
11 Store-Bought Bone Broths, Ranked Robin Miller/Tasting Table In case you haven't noticed, the bone broth section of most retailers has exploded. And it's not surprising, considering bone broth has gotten some well-deserved nutritional publicity (I'll get to that in a minute). Let's get ready to rumble: How a duel on a sandbar between Vidalia and Natchez became a deadly brawl
Call it the 19th century version of a Brawl for All. The World Wrestling Federation uses this terminology to describe a match of multiple players slugging it out in a ring. And though there were no wrestlers — or wrestling — involved at the gentlemanly gun duel Sandbar Fight of 1827, the showdown ended in a free-for-all. Anna Whipp, of Opelousas, inquired about this story, which took place on a sandbar in the Mississippi River between Vidalia and Natchez, Mississippi.
Ripley's Believe It Or Not! recognized the graves in this Acadiana cemetery. Here's why.
Blame it on the gravedigger. As the story goes, he's responsible for the incorrect layout of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery at 401 S. Adams Ave., in Rayne, which caught the eye of "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!" in 1997.
Why did no one graduate from Louisiana high schools in 1949? Curious Louisiana investigates
Imagine being a high school senior preparing for graduation and then being told you have to stay in school for another year. It definitely would be a major disappointment with nothing to do with your grades but everything to do with a change in policy. That's what happened in 1940s Louisiana. Students who would have ruled the school as seniors in 11th grade had to wait an extra year before graduating. This was a story the late Warren Guy Sevin told his wife, Houma resident EdnaMarie Campbell Sevin.
Descendants of 272 slaves sold by Georgetown priests to Louisiana later founded Southern University
Three million dollars. That's the modern equivalent of the price paid for 272 slaves of African descent in 1838, all sold to Louisiana plantations by Jesuit priests who baptized them into the Catholic faith. The priests considered these people their property, to be bought and sold to fund the mounting debt of a Jesuit-founded college that would become Georgetown University. The great irony "The irony is we're all devout, confirmed Roman Catholics," said Ernest Emerson Jones.
LSU engineering seniors help make dreams come true
BATON ROUGE, La. — Suddenly, it happened. Emerson Allen could throw a baseball. Not a big deal, you say? Well, don’t tell that to Emerson. The 15-year-old girl has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, a disease that severely limits her movement and use of her limbs. She has only partial movement in her left hand, meaning she could never hold a baseball, much less achieve her dream of throwing one.

Nutritionist exposes everything fake about sushi
Shutterstock By Robin Miller/Oct. 17, 2020 11:36 am EDT Sinking your teeth into a buttery piece of sushi is one of the most enjoyable things on earth. One sweet bite of red snapper or tender tuna, and you're instantly whisked away by the clean, fresh taste of the ocean. Problem is, there's an 87 percent chance you're not actually eating snapper and a 59 percent chance that's not tuna cushioned on your plate (via Oceana).
