Perioperative transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting after gynecologic laparoscopic surgery: protocol for a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial
Abstract Background Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remains a frequent and distressing complication after gynecologic laparoscopic surgery, with residual incidence approaching 30–40% despite contemporary multimodal antiemetic prophylaxis. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique that activates auricular vagal afferents projecting to brainstem nuclei implicated in emetic reflexes.
Determinants of youth engagement in rural revitalization in China: a mixed-method study based on grounded theory and structural equation modeling
Abstract Youth unemployment and rural poverty are pressing issues in developing countries, highlighted by the United Nations’ SDGs. In China, the urban–rural dual structure of the planned economy has contributed to youth unemployment and talent shortages in rural areas. While previous research has focused on urbanization and youth migration to cities, understanding their motivations for rural migration remains limited.
Coffee and Parkinson’s disease: associations by CYP1A2 genotype and sex in UK Biobank
Abstract Coffee consumption has been associated with Parkinson’s disease (PD), but findings remain inconsistent. We examined whether this association differs by CYP1A2 genotype and sex in 435,551 UK Biobank participants free of PD at baseline. During a median follow-up of 15.7 years, 3319 incident PD cases were identified. In overall analyses, coffee intake was not associated with PD risk. However, coffee intake significantly interacted with CYP1A2 genotype.
AFF-net: adaptive feature fusion network for efficient medical image segmentation
Abstract Medical image segmentation is essential for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Existing convolution and self-attention-based segmentation methods suffer from heavy computational overhead, while complex lesion morphology and blurred anatomical boundaries further degrade segmentation performance. To address the accuracy-efficiency trade-off in medical segmentation, this work proposes a lightweight adaptive feature fusion network (AFF-Net) with an optimized adapter fine-tuning paradigm.

FTO-mediated m6A demethylation regulates PGC-1α-dependent mitochondrial biogenesis to attenuate aluminum-induced neuronal senescence
Abstract Aluminum (Al) exposure is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders; however, the epitranscriptomic mechanisms linking environmental Al toxicity to neuronal senescence and mitochondrial alterations remain poorly understood.
Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide ignites metal mobilization in acid mine drainage
Abstract Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide is projected to exceed 800 ppm by 2100, yet its impact on acid mine drainage (AMD), which is currently contaminating 480,000 km of rivers, remains unclear. Here we combine a global meta-analysis of 82 AMD-associated sites covering diverse climate zones and ore types with laboratory experiments across environmentally relevant carbon dioxide gradients.
Trophic status strongly regulates nitrous oxide but not methane production in global freshwater lake sediments
Abstract Freshwater lakes are globally significant sources of potent greenhouse gases (GHGs), but how their GHGs emissions respond to changing nutrient levels remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that nitrous oxide (N2O) production pathways in lake sediments are tightly linked to trophic state, whereas methane (CH4) production appears to be multifactorial Through global metagenomics and controlled batch experiments.
A novel inflammatory-nutritional index: NPAR-correlates with the severity of type 2 diabetic foot ulcers

Towards collaborative intelligence: Reimagining human-agent co-design in traditional craft design through multi-agent Empathic Handover
ABSTRACT The proliferation of Large Language Models (LLMs) is transforming multi-agent systems (MAS) from reinforcement learning approaches to role-driven architectures, significantly expanding the horizons for human – agent collaboration. However, a persistent challenge in co-design remains the lack of systematic mechanisms for agents to achieve continuous empathy and nuanced contextual understanding – elements vital to human-centred design.
K48 and K63 linkage-competed ubiquitination of BECN1 promotes circPDE4D-mediated autophagy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive inflammatory lung disease with limited clinical therapeutic effects to suspend its progression. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) possess regulatory effects in various diseases. However, circRNA-involved regulatory mechanisms in COPD are largely unknown. This study reveals the mechanism of SMURF1-mediated BECN1 ubiquitination, which is competed by Ub-K48 and Ub-K63, driving the circPDE4D-regulated autophagy.
CMT-Unet: leveraging stage-wise hybrid framework for enhanced accuracy and efficiency in medical image segmentation - Scientific Reports
Abstract Achieving high-precision pixel-level segmentation in medical imaging necessitates both the preservation of fine-grained local details and the modeling of long-range contextual dependencies; nevertheless, convolutional, Transformer, and naive hybrid architectures struggle to adaptively balance these two requirements. To alleviate this limitation, we propose CMT-Unet, which incorporates a Mamba-based state space model to enable adaptive adjustment between local and global feature modeling.

Highly Sensitive Ce-Doped ZnO Nanocomposite Sensor for Detecting Lithium Battery Leakage
Both high- and low-magnification SEM images of all samples are depicted in Figure 2 a–j. The surface structures of pure ZnO and Ce-doped ZnO, which are presented in varying concentrations, are analogous and resemble porous crystals. Concurrently, SEM was employed to estimate the particulate sizes of pure ZnO and Ce-doped ZnO. The average diameter of Ce-doped ZnO was slightly lower than that of the pure one, suggesting that the doping of Ce resulted in a decrease in the average particle size.

Three‐dimensional gravity current interactions with oblique slopes: Deflection, reflection and combined‐flow behaviours
INTRODUCTION Turbidity currents are subaqueous gravity-driven turbulent flows that serve as important mechanisms for the transfer of large volumes of clastic sediments from continents to the deep oceans (e.g. Kuenen & Migliorini, 1950; Dzulynski et al., 1959; Sestini, 1970; Normark et al., 1993; Kneller & Buckee, 2000). Seafloor topography influences turbidity current behaviour, and therefore, the distribution and nature of their deposits.

Identifying subtypes and developing prognostic models based on N6-methyladenosine and immune microenvironment related genes in breast cancer - Scientific Reports
Abstract Breast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent cancer in women globally. The tumor microenvironment (TME), comprising epithelial tumor cells and stromal elements, is vital for breast tumor development. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification plays a key role in RNA metabolism, influencing its various aspects such as stability and translation. There is a notable link between m6A methylation and immune cells in the TME, although this relationship is complex and not fully deciphered.
