Carpetbaggers Seeks to Help Mississippi Deal with the Past
“A meddling Yankee is God’s worst creation; he cannot run his own affairs correctly, but is constantly interfering in the affairs of others, and he is always ready to repent of everyone’s sins, but his own.”[1] So opined a North Carolina newspaper in 1854, a quote also attributed to Confederate general Daniel Harvey Hill. And yet, 172 years later, Southerners are still dealing with meddling Yankees.

The government shutdown exposed the biggest lie in education
When Washington, D.C., grinds to a halt, the liberal media rushes to tell you the sky is falling. Randi Weigngarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and her union cronies cry out that schools will collapse without the Department of Education and that President Donald Trump is to blame for the shutdown. She has said he is "holding the American people hostage." The only people holding Americans hostage are the teachers unions.

Could you be an Oklahoma teacher? Take this 34-question test and find out Original
If you want to apply to be a teacher in Oklahoma, prepare a resume, references — and to take a 34-question test about civics. Here, Marissa Streit, the CEO of PragerU, which developed the test, and Ryan Walters, the superintendent of education for Oklahoma, explain the reason behind the test and respond to the backlash.
Oklahoma is leading the fight to save girls' sports - and they're winning
Let me say it plainly: boys don’t belong in girls’ sports. That used to be common sense. Now it’s a fight we have to win in every school, every courtroom, and every community in America. The radical Left is pushing the lie that gender is a choice, that biology doesn’t matter, and that feelings trump facts. And they expect the rest of us to nod along and stay quiet while they bulldoze fairness, safety, and truth. Not in Oklahoma.
Amy Coney Barrett’s recusal leaves religious liberty twisting in the wind
The U.S. Supreme Court’s 4-4 deadlock last week left intact the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling against St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School — a failure of constitutional courage and a setback for educational freedom. The tie lets stand a decision that discriminates against faith-based institutions by denying them the same public charter school opportunities extended to secular organizations.

Harris and Walz shouldn’t get a free pass on their anti-parent agenda
We support our Publishers and Content Creators. You can view this story on their website by CLICKING HERE. With three weeks until the presidential election, voters deserve a critical debate on education, yet it remains absent from the discussion. Last month’s debate between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) touched on various issues, including immigration, abortion, and the economy, while Donald Trump criticized both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Evangelicals can win the election for Trump
OPINION: As conservative evangelicals, we stand at a critical juncture in our nation’s history, confronted by an aggressive push from secular, “woke” ideologies championed by President Biden and his administration. This battle is not just cultural; it’s a fundamental struggle for the soul of America, deeply rooted in spiritual warfare. The election ahead is more than a political contest; it is our opportunity to affirm our commitment to our nation’s Judeo-Christian values.
How the border crisis threatens public education
One of the unintended consequences of the Biden administration's willful and malicious attack on our way of life often gets ignored: how the ongoing border crisis is undermining our nation’s education system. Fortunately, our public education system just dodged a major bullet in the form of the Senate’s bipartisan “border security” bill.

By Ryan Walters Many Bajans were left disappointed on Tuesday when the Ministry of Finance informed the country that they must “conduct their business with no expectation” of a VAT-free holiday. There was much speculation and anticipation about a repeat of the VAT-free day which was in December last year. But this was expected.

Delbert’s biggest lie
“I have always strived to protect the unborn and will continue to do so as Lieutenant Governor.” That statement was made by Delbert Hosemann four years ago during his campaign for lieutenant governor, but it is without a doubt the biggest whopper he has ever told, if you keep track of them as they go by. Hosemann may claim to be pro-life at this moment in time, but he wasn’t always pro-life. He is a former Democrat who contributed to Democratic campaigns and backed Democratic policies.
#BTColumn - Rebuilding DLP a priority
Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed by the author(s) do not represent the official position of Barbados TODAY. By Ryan Walters Many believe that reinventing the wheel is a wasted effort. It is smart to build with whatever you have, notwithstanding you should always seek more. I’ve been active in the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) for some time now, as one of its faithful servants.
Taxes are only way to pay for public safety
The City Council proposed Proposition 1 because it's the only way to fund our public safety agencies. State law allows for a public safety sales tax, but that's already in place countywide for funding the county jail. Impact fees cannot be spent on staffing. Anacortes's general revenue sources (property, sales, and utility tax) bring in only about $15 million annually and fund police, fire/EMS, courts, parks, planning, library, museum and roads.

McDermott serves us well
The enforcement of our laws is a critical responsibility in our society, and yet there's far too much politics being played with law enforcement right now. One way voters can help reject that is re-electing Don McDermott as Skagit County sheriff.
Rehabilitating a President’s Reputation
The Jazz Age President: Defending Warren G. Harding By Ryan S.
8 Myths About Warren G. Harding
The most maligned President in US history was Warren G. Harding, who served from his inauguration on March 4, 1921 until August 2, 1923, when he died while on a tour of the West Coast. But so much of what is known about Harding and his presidency is in the realm of myth, not fact. #1 His many detractors say he was not intelligent and even dumb, certainly not fit for the presidency, a fact he himself readily admitted.

The Two Presidents Whose Economic Policies Are Most Misunderstood by Historians
Leer en Español FDR and Warren G. Harding both inherited dismal economies. One of them quickly turned things around, however. One is viewed as among America’s greatest presidents; the other perhaps the worst of all. One is hailed as a savior; the other as a failure. One is given memorials to enshrine his name for all time; the other is pushed into the sea of forgetfulness.

The Triumphant Foreign Policy of Warren G. Harding
"I find a hundred thousand sorrows touching my heart, and there is a ringing in my ears, like an admonition eternal, an insistent call, ‘It must not be again! It must not be again!’" said a tearful President Warren G. Harding in May 1921, as 5212 wooden caskets with the remains of American servicemen from France arrived on the docks in Hoboken, New Jersey.

How Liberals Unfairly Maligned Warren G. Harding
The most disparaged, defamed, and denigrated American President was, without doubt, Warren G. Harding, who served as the 29th President from 1921-1923. Leftwing historians and journalists have tarnished his reputation for a century, making it one of the great tragedies of American history. Liberals have called him the worst president ever, dead last, unfit, corrupt, immoral, incompetent, inept, lazy, indecisive, shallow, an amiable fool, and a notorious womanizer.

My Take: Small steps could bolster gun laws
By Ryan Walters Sunday Aug 11, 2019 at 10:57 AM This letter to the editor regards issues of gun violence, and specifically mass shootings. It is important to me that my views on guns are unequivocally clear to an undoubtedly pro-gun audience. These first two paragraphs are a preface to my letter regarding my relationship with Dayton and my closeness to that tragedy. I’m a Laketown Township kid, as well as a lifelong gun owner.
Killing the Incorporation Doctrine
A review of The 14th Amendment and the Incorporation Doctrine by David Benner (Minneapolis: Life and Liberty Publishing Group, 2017) Even though I have always been a strong advocate of states’ rights and sovereignty, and for safeguarding the federal system, the “incorporation doctrine” had always troubled me. What is meant by the “incorporation doctrine”? The application, by the federal courts, of the Bill of Rights restrictions upon the states.
Frogs or freedom? Landowners win as court rejects FWS power play
The dusky gopher frog is a critter that can be found in certain areas of Mississippi — and nowhere else. Yet the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service decided to “protect” the dusky gopher frog by using the Endangered Species Act to designate a 1,500-acre tract of private forestry land in Louisiana as “critical habitat necessary for the species’ survival,” even though the land is not inhabited by the frog, and is in fact unsuitable for the species.
Confirming Kavanaugh Will Not Fix The Problem Of Judicial Supremacy
Even if Brett Kavanaugh turns out to be a tremendous originalist justice, the courts still represent a major threat to the republic. Some conservatives now believe that, with Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, the judicial branch may be brought into balance with the legislative and executive branches of government rather than dominate them. This is a false reassurance, and a dangerous one at that.
A Supreme Court Justice Shouldn’t Have Significant Impact On National Policy
On January 2, 1801, John Jay wrote a letter to President John Adams explaining why he would not accept the commission to be chief justice of the Supreme Court. Jay had been the country’s first Supreme Court Chief Justice, but in his letter, he explains to President Adams that the Supreme Court did not have the “energy, weight, and dignity” to be impactful on public policy.
Marbury V. Madison Didn't Say Supreme Court Decides Constitutionality
After President Trump announced his nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court, many have been discussing the various justices’ judicial philosophies. The way the justices would exercise their power of judicial review has been central to this discussion. Judicial review is currently revered in American political society.
Should Presidents And Legislatures Ignore Crazy Court Decisions?
When a president or legislature is faced with following either a court ruling they know has no constitutional basis or the actual Constitution, they should heed Hamilton’s advice. Many conservatives hold conflicting positions about dealing with illegitimate federal court rulings. They blast rulings from the high courts as unconstitutional, illegal, and improper, while stating the other branches of government must follow these rulings.
Jeffersonian Conservatism
What is true conservatism? That question, more than anything else, is the argument raging in the Republican Party today – one side fully represented in the party’s establishment wing, while the other resides in the hearts of true patriots at the grassroots, those who carry the American Revolution’s sacred fire of liberty. Yet most true conservatives may not realize that their closely held philosophy of limited government originated in the South.
Why the Mississippi flag, monuments must remain
“The most effective way to destroy a people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history,” said George Orwell, author of "1984." Today we are seeing this right before our eyes. Whether it is monuments to honor our Founding Fathers or soldiers of the Confederacy and their revered battle flag, Leftists across the country are demanding the destruction of our history to appease their guilty conscience.
Liberal disregard for judicial deference harms faith in the law
In the opening remarks at his confirmation hearings, Chief Justice John Roberts stated that “judges are like umpires.” But what happens when the umpire decides that balls look like strikes when one team is at bat, and not the other? Under our federal system, Congress makes laws that authorize executive agencies to carry out certain functions.
A simplified characterization of S-adenosyl-L-methionine-consuming enzymes with 1-Step EZ-MTase: a universal and straightforward coupled-assay for in vitro and in vivo setting - Chemical Science (RSC Publishing)
Methyltransferases use S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to deposit methyl marks. Many of these epigenetic ‘writers’ are associated with gene regulation. As cancer etiology is highly correlated with misregulated methylation patterns, methyltransferases are emerging therapeutic targets. Successful assignment of methyltransferases’ roles within intricate biological networks relies on 1) the access to enzyme mechanistic insights and 2) the efficient screening of chemical probes against these targets.
Revisiting Churchill: Where are the statesmen today?
The English Oxford Dictionary defines a statesman as “a skilled, experienced, and respected political leader or figure.” To be viewed as a statesman one must have principles, courage, and vision. These are the qualities that make a statesman respected. Why does it seem so difficult to find politicians that possess these qualities today? One of the last great statesmen, Winston Churchill, was recorded by Richard Langworth in his book Churchill by Himself as stating: ‘How hard to build.
Writers Chat: FC Seoul vs Western Sydney Wanderers
In a Champions League group that once looked destined for thrilling matches with some of the best teams Asia had to offer, both FC Seoul and Western Sydney Wanderers enter this match simply searching for pride. Both squads are winless in ACL and have each suffered a shellacking (or two) along the way. If either is to have a hope of international glory, this early match has suddenly become a must win.

4 Steps To Give Your Digital Video the Look of Film
The following article first appeared in a slightly different form on the blog of cinematographer Ryan E. Walters, http://www.ryanewalters.com/Blog/blog.php Thanks to many innovations in technology, digital cinema cameras are continuing to improve in quality by leaps and bounds. However, the pristine images that these cameras deliver have introduced a new problem that we haven’t had to think about until now: The images are getting too good. They are too clean.
The Free State of Jones: History or Hollywood?
Hollywood has struck again with another “Civil War” movie that, unsurprisingly as it may seem, does not do justice to the real Southland or the Confederacy. The latest episode is an epic by director Gary Ross, “Free State of Jones,” starring Matthew McConaughey as the film’s hero, Newt Knight. “Free State of Jones” tells the story of a Knight-led rebellion against the Confederacy in Jones County, Mississippi, whereby the county allegedly seceded and declared itself a free state.
