A Little Off The Top
Every holiday has its day “OK, folks, settle down, settle down. We’d like to start the first meeting of the Give August a Holiday Symposium Organization Sub-particle and All Points West Committee, or as it’s known in the hinterlands – the what? “As we all know, or at least those of us who have put down their phones to listen, the Month of August called this meeting to meet, what with its manic-depressive state of being the only month without a holiday to call its own.
As Insurers Retreat, the Hamptons Becomes a Test Case for Climate Risk
As insurers pull back from one of America’s most valuable coastal housing markets, affluent homeowners are taking climate risk onto their own balance sheets. Photo by J. Conrad Williams Jr./Newsday RM via Getty Images It has never been more expensive to buy into the Hamptons. In late 2025, the median sales price hit a record $2.34 million, with sales above $10 million soaring 75 percent from the previous year.
How Regenerative Thinking Helps Leaders Bounce Forward, Not Back
For decades, leadership development has centered on resilience. We trained leaders to withstand pressure, manage crises, and return to operational normality as quickly as possible. The goal was restoration. But in a world defined by constant disruption, where the next crisis is inevitable, the “bounce back” mindset is exhausting our best people. It asks them to return to a past that no longer exists, using energy they no longer have.
Climate Risk Is Rewriting the Logic of Global Insurance
As insurers retreat from climate-exposed markets, governments and investors are quietly abandoning the assumption that systems can return to their old equilibrium. Photo by Jeff Gritchen/MediaNews Group/Orange County Register via Getty Images In 2018, California’s insurer of last resort carried roughly 127,000 policyholders. By the end of 2025, it carried more than 668,000, with residential exposure approaching $603 billion in June 2025, a 424 percent increase since 2020.
How boards and CEOs become misaligned
The CEO of a US ocean conservation nonprofit called me last year. Her organisation was losing people. She arrived with the architecture fixes ready: revised pay bands, new reporting lines, a restructured benefits package. Forty minutes in, neither of us had discussed strategy. What had surfaced, slowly, was that she and her board were reading the same instruments and reaching the same conclusions, and both readings came from instruments that were not measuring what was actually moving.
AI Is Not the Disruption. Your Operating Model Is.
The five percent of organizations capturing value from AI are not deploying tools faster. They are redesigning how work gets done. A chief executive showed me her board pack: five AI pilots and a twelve percent margin target by 2026. I asked which pilots she had been inside, which workflows she had walked, and which decisions the AI was now making. She paused. She had not been inside any of them. The pilots were running. She was reporting on them. She did not understand them.
A musical beginning: Sheffield Chamber Orchestra and Steel City Choristers to bring Haydn's The Creation to Victoria Hall
Stuart Green This landmark performance brings together 70 local and national musicians to tell the vivid story of the world's beginning, as depicted in the Book of Genesis and Milton'sParadise Lost. The choice of Haydn'sThe Creationis particularly poignant. Denis McCaldin, Director of the Haydn Society of Great Britain, explains that the composer was inspired to write this oratorio after hearing the massive Handel festivals in London.
Reinvent for growth: The signals shaping media’s next chapter
From Signals to Momentum Why reinvention now demands fluidity Across all five signals, a unifying theme emerges. Growth and resilience will favor media companies that move beyond rigid models and continuously adapt to shifting audience behaviors, evolving technologies, and new economic realities. Reinvention is no longer a one-time transformation program. It is an ongoing discipline—reallocating investment, redesigning engagement, and resetting operating models as conditions change.
When Efficiency Becomes Fragility
An efficient operation is held out as the paragon of a mature governance structure. Controls are fine-tuned, audits are comprehensive. That’s all well and good in times of stability; when will those times return, again? Author and leadership adviser Stuart J. Green explores the downside of efficiency at all costs: fragility. Efficiency has long been treated as a signal of governance maturity. Lean reporting structures. Precisely calibrated controls. Clearly defined escalation pathways.
After My Wife's Death, My Daughter Helped Us Find A New Way To Grieve
Stuart Green Sun, February 1, 2026 at 7:00 a.m. UTC 4 min read Add Yahoo as a preferred source to see more of our stories on Google. The author I remember the moment my daughter, Grace, gave our family the phrase that changed how we live with grief. It was the second anniversary of her mother Mia’s death. Two years earlier, our lives had been split into a before and an after by a sudden, unimaginable event. One day, my wife was alive. The next, she was gone.
The quick weekly reset high-performing leaders use to stay ahead of disruption
It’s Friday afternoon. Your inbox looks like a battleground, your calendar is a collage of back-to-back calls, and the strategic plan you built last quarter already feels outdated. You’ve spent the week reacting, extinguishing fires, and juggling unexpected demands you didn’t plan for. You’ve been busy, but not necessarily productive. You’ve managed the chaos, but you haven’t had space to lead through it. This is the trap many leaders find themselves in today.
Nature Is the Ultimate Teacher for Building Adaptive, Thriving Organizations
In an Oregon forest, a single honey mushroom colony stretches across nearly four square miles. Weighing an estimated 35,000 tons and surviving for thousands of years, it is one of the largest and oldest living organisms on Earth. Its longevity offers a powerful lesson for modern leaders: the most durable and adaptive organizational models are not found in management textbooks, but embedded in nature’s operating logic.
Enantioselective protein affinity selection mass spectrometry (E-ASMS) - Nature Communications
|
Abstract We report an enantioselective protein affinity selection mass spectrometry screening approach (E-ASMS) that enables the detection of weak binders, informs on selectivity, and generates orthogonal confirmation of binding. After method development with control proteins, we screen 31 human proteins against a designed library of 8,217 chiral compounds.

Opinion: So much for the party of 'common sense'
So that's it, then. It's enough to tattoo "We the People" on our forearms and never read or heed what comes after. Maybe throw in a performative flag background for extra patriotic credit. But lawmakers suggesting military service members actually protect the Constitution and follow the law? Ah ... that's treason. Sedition. Punishable by death. Our Commander in Chief said so, when we were definitely not confusing obeisance to his ego with loyalty to our country.
Rugby Europe General Secretary ‘Impressed’
(as published in print edition of Tuesday 9th September 2025) by Stuart Green ‘I would be happy to hold high profile, international tournaments here in Gibraltar’ says the General Secretary of Rugby Europe In recent weeks, the officials of the Gibraltar Rugby Football Union have appeared in French courts where they have successfully challenged various barriers which were being placed in the way of the GRFU’s application for membership of Rugby Europe. The headquarters of Rugby Europe is in Paris.
Northwestern’s Inane — and Controversial — Bias Trainings
Tedious HR-mandated training videos are a routine feature of white-collar professional life, so perhaps Northwestern was just preparing its students for the years ahead when it required them, in the middle of last year, to watch, or pretend to watch, two pieces of propaganda: Antisemitism Here/Now and Beyond the Headlines: Anti-Muslim, Anti-Arab, and Anti-Palestinian Biases.
The Perils and Pleasures of Talking to Reporters
When I began my career as a law professor, some 30 years ago, the job was pretty much what I had expected: educating students, doing scholarship, participating in faculty governance. What I had not realized was that my new position would also lead to media stardom. OK, I’m exaggerating. But I was surprised and, I must confess, gratified when I started getting occasional queries from print and broadcast journalists. Could I explain the import of a new Supreme Court decision?
OICR-41103 as a chemical probe for the DCAF1 WD40 domain - Communications Biology
Abstract Human DCAF1 is a multidomain protein that plays a critical role in protein homeostasis. Its WDR domain functions as a substrate recruitment module for RING-type CRL4 and HECT family EDVP E3 ubiquitin ligases, enabling the ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of specific substrates. DCAF1’s activity has been implicated in cell proliferation and is documented to promote tumorigenesis.

A Little Off The Top
By Stuart Green A novel approach to library’s shelf life The Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood is getting set for an update. Well, technically, the library isn›t getting set because libraries are just buildings and don›t get themselves set for anything. They just sit around and wait for someone to open the door, look around, grab a book, look around again, take out a card, look around some more, and try very hard not to talk or, in the extreme, whisper - you know, like you›re in a library.
Crystal structures of DCAF1-PROTAC-WDR5 ternary complexes provide insight into DCAF1 substrate specificity - Nature Communications
Abstract Proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) have been explored for the degradation of drug targets for more than two decades. However, only a handful of E3 ligase substrate receptors have been efficiently used. Downregulation and mutation of these receptors would reduce the effectiveness of such PROTACs. We recently developed potent ligands for DCAF1, a substrate receptor of EDVP and CUL4 E3 ligases.
Talking about strategy: the role of epic plot structures in international contracting
Abstract Emerging international markets are frequently characterized by high levels of economic and political uncertainty. Such inherent uncertainties render established ideas of competitive positioning problematic. An alternative perspective is developed which focuses on the day-to-day enactment of strategy through the medium of narrative. Narrative interviews with senior managers from Turkish international contracting firms provide insights into the contested storylines of strategy making.
A Little Off The Top
Ready to run off before the runoff By Stuart Green It’s November, and I’m gone. I’m pulling myself from the polls, loosening the bolts from the ballots. I’m singin’ the Blues over seeing Red, railing against the rallies, leaving the debates to fate. I’ve dropped out of the Electoral College, and leaving behind the campaign pain. In short, I’m taking a boat from the vote.
Pixels and pawns: navigating accessibility and IP rights management in tabletop emulator platforms
Tabletop emulators are a popular platform for board game enthusiasts. They allow users to recreate the experience of playing physical board games with others online, fostering a vibrant community of gamers. However, this convenience comes with intellectual property (IP) considerations that both board game publishers, tabletop emulator developers and users must navigate.
A Little Off The Top Of crayons, nap time and presidents
By Stuart Green A hush descends upon the room – well, not so much of a hush as a muffled silence. And more like an unconscious free-fall than a descent. Let’s start again – although it’s unlikely to improve much. It’s the first day of kindergarten, which only can mean one thing, or maybe a few, if they’re divided evenly – patient introductions, soothing talks about paintings, calm mentions of learning the alphabet.

A Little Off the Top Days & confused
By Stuart Green Welcome to the Dog Days of summer. The period got its name from the Ancients, who lived in ancient times. As they peered into the sky, contemplating the wonders of the universe, they saw in the stars a figure that touched their inner beings and spoke to them - the mystical Scooby-Doo. Others say Snoopy. A rebellious branch said Lassie, but what do you expect from a Neanderthal? Days are as important today as they were yesterday – or even last Tuesday.
A Little Off The Top Hits & Myths: The third-dimensional Fourth
By Stuart Green This year, the Fourth of July falls on July 4. Few know, but there was a Fourth of July before 1776 – it fell on July 4, 1775. That year, the Fourth actually occurred on July 4, but there was no Declaration, or fireworks, or parade, or cookouts. Well, maybe a cookout, but that was just known as “dinner” that year. In the time of the Revolution, Norwood didn’t exist. Well, it did exist. There, we’ve covered both ends of that argument, so let’s move on.

I hereby, herewith, heretofore, and haircut call the Annual Tom Meeting to order. And I should know. Generative AI vs The Artist? The Changing Face of Board Game Design
Aesthetics have been a key feature of board games throughout history. Think of intricately carved chess pieces, the black and white simplicity contrast of a Go set, the brightly coloured snakes on a Snakes and Ladders board, or the well-loved top hat, shoe, or car tokens of the original Monopoly. As the board game hobby has evolved, game theming and components (especially meeples) have driven game appeal across the spectrum, from simple card games to the heaviest of the Euro games.
Game On: The Expanding Universe of Gaming Merchandise
In the ever-evolving world of gaming, branded merchandise is becoming an increasingly significant aspect of gaming culture, extending the experience beyond the screen and into the daily lives of gamers. From games developers leveraging their titles into merchandise lines to businesses from other industries dipping their virtual toes into the digital world with in-game offerings, there are an endless array of potential branding opportunities to be pursued.
How Real-World Data Is Helping Close the Rural-Urban Health Divide Original
For too long, rural and underserved communities have been left behind in medical research, clinical trials, and access to the latest medicines. While the easier to reach, urban populations are overrepresented in clinical trials, rural areas with fewer academic research centers and fewer participating physicians remain vastly understudied. Real-world data provides a powerful tool to bridge this gap and generate insights to improve health equity for our most isolated populations.
KISS Forever? A glimpse into the future of music
In music mythology, the ‘never-ending tour’ is something often associated with songwriting legend Bob Dylan given he has not left the road for the last four decades. Farewell tours come and go. Some artists stay retired. Others reform, reinvent and reincarnate.

By Stuart Green There’s no place like cave A long time before Nor merged with Wood, before the States were United, before the Hemisphere was in the West, before East was East, before Up was Down, before Disco was King, and King to Rook four – and checkmate in two moves. In fact, before before was before. So, this is going back aways… and you thought last Tuesday was hard to remember.
Australian anti-scalping laws in the “Era” of Taylor Swift
Last June, the momentous announcement that Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” would be hitting Australia in 2024 sent more than 4 million fans into a ticket-buying frenzy. Devoted fans, or “Swifties” as they are eponymously known, spent several hours waiting on the official ticketing website, Ticketek, to secure their golden ticket. While many were lucky to snap one up, many more were not. Fast forward to February 2024 and the seven upcoming sold-out Australian shows are the talk of the town.
The Bad Blood of Deepfakes
The exponential and unstoppable rise of technology as seen with the significant advance of everything and anything ‘artificial intelligence’ (AI) is at once marvellous and frightening. Recently, the world of Taylor Swift, a performer who is currently on her own exponential and unstoppable rise, suffered a Glitch when explicit deepfakes of the singer/songwriter began circulating on social media platform X.
A Little Off The Top Pony up to stirrup a holiday
By Stuart Green Turning back the pages of local historical history… Oh, for those under 20, a page is something made of paper in what was known as a book, which is something that people read, which is something that people did with their eyes to impart knowledge into their brains before the advent of videos, 24-hour drive-thrus, and cheese doodles. So, the history thing.
Hasbro - Please make X-Men Outback team figures
Over the years, Hasbro has released action figures of the various characters from the Marvel Universe for the ongoing "Marvel Legends" toyline. For their "Marvel Legends: X-Men" toyline, though, one team has been skipped over in recent years: the Outback era team of X-Men. While some like Longshot, Rogue and Wolverine have been made into figures, there are still several characters that have yet to get new figures from that era, especially Storm, Colossus, Dazzler and Psylocke.

Discovery of Nedd4 auto-ubiquitination inhibitors - Scientific Reports
Abstract E3 ubiquitin ligases are critical to the protein degradation pathway by catalyzing the final step in protein ubiquitination by mediating ubiquitin transfer from E2 enzymes to target proteins. Nedd4 is a HECT domain-containing E3 ubiquitin ligase with a wide range of protein targets, the dysregulation of which has been implicated in myriad pathologies, including cancer and Parkinson's disease.

How to choose an asset manager. Original
By Stuart Green Investing is a key aspect to creating personal wealth. Broadly speaking, an individual can select the stocks or bonds themselves, or outsource this to a fund or investment manager. Making the right choice when selecting a fund manager is key to long-term gains. This can be done directly into a unit trust or through a savings product, such as a Retirement Annuity, Tax-Free Savings Account, etc.
Views from the field: Shifting left in enterprise cloud security
Stuart Green, cloud security architect at Check Point Software, explains how businesses can mitigate cybersecurity risks. As of 2022,. Confidence in the cloud has grown over the last 12 to 18 months, with 35% of organizations having more than 50% of their workloads in the cloud. While businesses are quick to deploy cloud solutions at scale, we’re not seeing the same rapid adoption of preventative cybersecurity measures to keep this widened attack surface protected.
Why I Insist On Answering Myers-Briggs Questions In Essay Form
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - the world's most widely used personality assessment tool - contains a long list of statements in response to which subjects are asked to indicate whether they "strongly agree," "somewhat agree," "neither agree nor disagree," "somewhat disagree," or "strongly disagree." Personally, I find the agree/disagree format kind of limiting. When I take Myers-Briggs, I like to showcase the full richness of my personality.
