GWAS meta-analysis provides new insights into uveal melanoma risk
Abstract The aim of this research is to identify germline genetic variants that predispose to uveal melanoma (UM) using data from nine studies involving 5839 individuals with UM (3853 novel) and 349,863 healthy controls. Five novel UM genome-wide association studies (GWAS) were performed and included for meta-analysis with four previously published UM GWAS. A fixed-effects inverse-variance weighted (IVW) meta-analysis was performed by combining data from these nine UM case-control cohorts.

The role of autophagy in the Arabidopsis self-incompatible pollen rejection response
In plants, macroautophagy/autophagy is an essential mechanism responsible for a large variety of processes throughout the plant's lifecycle, including nutrient processing, immunity, stress responses and senescence. Previous studies had observed the presence of autophagosomes in an Arabidopsis sexual reproduction system that prevents self-fertilization (self-incompatibility), but their requirement in this pathway was unclear.

Native title rights are property, and compensation is payable for extinguishing them pre-1975: High Court
Until this morning, the conventional view has been that Indigenous Australians were not entitled to compensation for the extinguishment of their native title that took place before the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. The High Court has just overturned that view, leading to the possibility of historical compensation claims by native title parties for “acts” on their traditional country that occurred pre-1975 (Commonwealth of Australia v Yunupingu [2025] HCA 6).

The Arabidopsis SNARE complex genes regulate the early stages of pollen-stigma interactions
Abstract In the Brassicaceae, the process of accepting compatible pollen is a key step in successful reproduction and highly regulated following interactions between the pollen and the stigma. Central to this, is the initiation of secretion in the stigma, which is proposed to provide resources to the pollen for hydration and germination and pollen tube growth. Previously, the eight exocyst subunit genes were shown to be required in the Arabidopsis stigma to support these pollen responses.

Genome-wide association meta-analyses combining multiple risk phenotypes provide insights into the genetic architecture of cutaneous melanoma susceptibility
Abstract Most genetic susceptibility to cutaneous melanoma remains to be discovered. Meta-analysis genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 36,760 cases of melanoma (67% newly genotyped) and 375,188 controls identified 54 significant (P < 5 × 10−8) loci with 68 independent single nucleotide polymorphisms. Analysis of risk estimates across geographical regions and host factors suggests the acral melanoma subtype is uniquely unrelated to pigmentation.
Accurate computed spin-state energetics for Co(III) complexes: implications for modelling homogeneous catalysis
Accurate computed spin-state energetics for Co(III) complexes: implications for modelling homogeneous catalysis Co(III) complexes are increasingly prevalent in homogeneous catalysis. Catalytic cycles involve multiple intermediates, many of which will feature unsaturated metal centres. This raises the possibility of multi-state character along reaction pathways and so requires an accurate approach to calculating spin-state energetics.

Reductive Elimination at Carbon under Steric Control
It has been previously demonstrated that stable singlet electrophilic carbenes can behave as metal surrogates in the activation of strong E–H bonds (E = H, B, N, Si, P), but it was believed that these activations only proceed through an irreversible activation barrier. Herein we show that, as is the case with transition metals, the steric environment can be used to promote reductive elimination at carbon centers.
