US 'Welcome Corps' helps resettle LGBTQ+ refugees fleeing crackdowns against gay people
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Cabrel Ngounou's life in Cameroon quickly unraveled after neighbors caught the teenager with his boyfriend. A crowd surrounded his boyfriend's house and beat him. Ngounou's family learned of the relationship and kicked him out. So Ngounou fled — alone and with little money — on a dangerous, four-year journey through at least five countries. He was sexually assaulted in a Libyan prison, harassed in Tunisia and tried unsuccessfully to take a boat to Europe.

Where do you live? That's a complicated question for a California town with no street addresses
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (AP) — No one in this wealthy California community known for its white-sand beaches and storybook charm has a street address. But unlike the houses in Carmel-By-The-Sea, those days may soon be numbered. After more than a century of address-free living, this seaside tourist destination where Clint Eastwood once presided as mayor is moving ahead with a plan to assign street numbers to homes and businesses. Many long-time residents aren’t happy about it.

Where do you live? That's a complicated question for a California town with no street addresses
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. (AP) — Carmel-by-the-Sea is known for its white-sand beaches, storybook buildings and famous former mayor, Clint Eastwood. A lesser-known quirk of the wealthy seaside community in California is its lack of street addresses. But a century of address-free living may be coming to an end in the city of 3,300 residents, located about 120 miles south of San Francisco. In July, the city council voted 3-2 to move forward with a plan to assign street numbers.
World's first hydrogen-powered commercial ferry to run on San Francisco Bay, and it's free to ride
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The world’s first hydrogen-powered commercial passenger ferry will start operating on San Francisco Bay as part of plans to phase out diesel-powered vessels and reduce planet-warming carbon emissions, California officials said Friday, demonstrating the ship. The 70-foot (21-meter) catamaran called the MV Sea Change will transport up to 75 passengers along the waterfront between Pier 41 and the downtown San Francisco ferry terminal starting July 19, officials said.
