Durkin started calling races for the New York Racing Association in 1990 and has since called dozens of Belmont Stakes races. Now retired, Durkin is enjoying life away from the announcer’s booth.

Demolition begins at Latitude Five25 towers damaged in 2022 Christmas Day blast

More than three years after a catastrophic Christmas Day left near East Side neighbors displaced, the apartment towers they once called home are now coming down. Demolition began at Latitude Five25 on Monday, with a large crane on site to start the process. The buildings, known for pyramid structures atop the two towers, have stood since 1963. One of the pyramid structures is already gone as demolition gets underway.
