From Rice to Spice: How High-Value Agriculture Can Transform Rural Asia
By Wanglin Ma and Dil Rahut Across developing Asia, agriculture is undergoing a structural transition from staple-crop production toward higher-value commodities such as horticulture, livestock products, tea, and aquaculture. This shift, often referred to as high-value agriculture (HVA), offers new opportunities to raise farm incomes, strengthen value chains, and promote rural transformation.
Multidimensional Energy Poverty, Food Expenditure, and Dietary Diversity Among Rural Households
1 Introduction Energy poverty has emerged as a critical barrier to rural development, particularly by constraining human capital accumulation. It undermines various dimensions of well-being, including the quality of the living environment, physical health, and educational outcomes (Okorie and Lin 2022; Rafi et al. 2021; Tripathi et al. 2024).

A Small Act Towards Circular Bioeconomy: Adoption of Integrated Crop‐Livestock System and Its Impacts on Fertiliser Use
1 Introduction Advancing a circular bioeconomy is an urgent global necessity, as the current economic model's growth heavily depends on non-renewable, fossil-based products, which are inherently unsustainable. For example, the increase in agriculture and food production has been primarily driven by extensive chemical inputs, such as fertiliser (Vatsa, Zheng, and Ma 2024). This has led to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.

Adoption of Minimum Tillage and Mid‐Season Drainage in Rice Production and Their Impacts on Farm and Economic Performance
1 Introduction Agriculture, forestry and land use collectively contributed 18.4% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2020 (Ritchie and Roser 2020). In general, crop production emitted approximately 8.0 Tg of nitrous oxide (N2O) and livestock production emitted around 142 Tg of methane (CH4) annually between 2007 and 2016 (IPCC 2019).
The role of agricultural cooperatives in improving mechanization levels: Differences between outsourcing machinery services and household‐owned machines
1 INTRODUCTION Population projections indicate that the world population will reach around 10 billion by 2050 (FAO, 2018). This corresponds to an increased demand for food. The United Nations reported that food production should increase by about 70% to meet the increased demand of the growing population, and food production in developing countries needs to be doubled.

Healthy Diet Choices: Does Internet Use Help Promote Healthy Food Consumption in Indonesia?
1 Introduction Food consumption determines the quality of life. Unhealthy diets, such as processed food with high sugar and saturated fat, are linked to non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, cancer, type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Malmir et al. 2023; Riesenberg et al. 2022; Umberger et al. 2015). The occurrences and death tolls resulting from non-communicable diseases are increasing globally, posing a challenge to the global health system.

Internet use and household debt: insights from rural China
ABSTRACT Internet use is accelerating in rural communities of developing countries. Although much attention has been devoted to the effects of Internet use on subjective well-being, income growth, poverty reduction, digital financial inclusion, and social connections in these communities, little is known about how it affects their indebtedness. This paper bridges this gap by investigating the association between Internet use and household debt in rural China.

Why using more fertilizer and feed does not necessarily raise dairy farm profits but increases climate harm Original
New Zealand is in an unusual position in the developed world when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. About half of all emissions come from agriculture, and almost a quarter can be attributed to biological emissions (nitrous oxide and methane) from the dairy sector. The latest synthesis report released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in March highlights the challenges climate change presents for New Zealand.

China’s experience with mobile payments highlights the pros and cons of a cashless society | Techblog
An increasing number of people are using mobile devices – their smartphone, a smartwatch or tablet – to pay for goods and services. Mobile devices allow people to complete transactions without using cash or a traditional bank card, making shopping quicker and easier. Our recent research on China’s experience with mobile payments even suggests that people who pay with mobile devices are happier than those who do not.

Does agricultural cooperative membership influence off‐farm work decisions of farm couples?
1 INTRODUCTION Off-farm work, an essential source of rural livelihood, is critical to alleviating rural poverty and improving household well-being in many developing countries (Aikaeli et al. 2023; Das & Mahanta 2023; Duong et al. 2021). In China, rural migrant workers leaving for more rewarding off-farm employment opportunities increased from 242 million in 2010 to 285 million in 2020 (NBSC 2020).
