Tyanna Smith, a resident at Oak Park Townhomes, said she came to Kansas City from homelessness after leaving a domestic violence situation in Arizona. “I just came from Arizona from a DV situation, so I’m very grateful,” Smith said.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Kansas City Surf is anticipating a 10 to 20 percent increase in enrollment this season, and club leaders say no child will be turned away because of cost. Club President Rob Million said the World Cup’s arrival in Kansas City has driven a spike in interest - and the phones are already ringing. Scholarships at KC Surf are funded by donors within the club itself. Million said the organization makes additional sacrifices to ensure every child who wants to play can.
