1 Introduction Mpox is caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV) and has garnered global attention for its impact on public health. Two distinct genetic clades have been identified for MPXV: clade I (with subclades Ia and Ib) and clade II (with subclades IIa and IIb) [1]. MPXV clade Ib was first detected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in September 2023 [2]. In 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox as a global public health emergency owing to its increased spread [3].
