How to Overcome the Fear of Change: 3 Proven Strategies to Lead with Confidence
Last week I was speaking at a healthcare conference in Tampa, Florida. A conference room full of executives, leaders, and individual contributors, all worried about one thing — how to overcome the fear of change. If you’ve ever felt anxious about shifting priorities, new technology, or constant organizational changes, you’re not alone. Learning how to overcome the fear of change is one of the biggest leadership challenges today.
3 Strategies to Become Mentally Fit and Powerfully Resilient in Times of Change
So what does it mean to be mentally fit? And why does it even matter in today’s world? Great questions — and ones I’ve been reflecting on a lot lately. If recent events have taught us anything, it’s that our world is becoming more uncertain every single day. What Does It Mean to Be Mentally Fit? Not the textbook definition, not a ChatGPT answer — but mine.
The State of Politics
The town was only small and had a lack of authority. People solved problems and disputes in their own way. Sometimes this would be through negotiation, trading, or outright violence. It had been like this for as long as anyone could remember. The Farmer lived in a tiny outhouse. His life thrived on the outside in the wet and muddy conditions where his cattle, sheep, and pigs thrived.
Politics, Religion and the Psychology The headlines about recent elections can feel like dispatches from separate universes. In July 2024 British voters handed Labour a landslide victory, yet 45 per cent of Anglicans still backed the Conservatives. In the
Humans are meaning‑making creatures. We join groups, adopt narratives and defend them fiercely because belonging provides security. Social identity theory posits that our self‑esteem is tied to the groups we belong to. Those groups can be political parties, denominations or fandoms. When an opposing party wins an election, it can feel like a personal attack rather than a normal transfer of power.
The Psychology of Faith‑Based Mental Health: When Religion Helps or Hurts
Mention religion in a conversation about mental health and you’re guaranteed to get an eye‑roll from somebody. Sigmund Freud dismissed faith as a “universal obsessional neurosis,” while cognitive‑behaviour therapy pioneer Albert Ellis argued that devout religion was correlated with emotional disturbance. Even today, some clinicians assume that belief in a higher power is a coping crutch at best and a source of guilt and shame at worst. That view is outdated.
Gen Z Men and the Right Turn: Politics, Faith and Mental Health
The past few years have been brutal on the youngest adult generation. Between a pandemic, economic whiplash and the constant hum of social media, many young men in particular have retreated into isolated worlds built around gyms, gaming consoles and conspiracy‑laden message boards. That isolation has political consequences. Early exit polling from the 2024 U.S. presidential election showed a noticeable shift to the right among Generation Z men.
Religion’s Role in the 2024 UK General Election: Faith, Politics and Identity
The British press framed the July 4 2024 general election as a straightforward rejection of thirteen years of Conservative rule. That narrative isn’t wrong — Labour won a commanding majority and the Tories suffered their worst defeat in decades — but it glosses over a deeper story about religion and political identity. Despite decades of secularisation, **61 per cent of Britons** still hold religious beliefs, attend services or identify with a faith community.
