CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Charleston Fire Department held its annual tribute Thursday to honor nine firefighters who died 19 years ago when the Sofa Super Store caught fire. June 18, 2007, left families across the Lowcountry with grief they continue to carry. The department held a ceremony to remember the nine lives lost. “Everybody knows why we’re here tonight, but if you’re a firefighter and you hear that bell, it frames it just a little bit differently,” Charleston Fire Chief Dan Curia said.
