(WFSB) - Thousands of Bristol residents woke without power following Fourth of July storms, and crews working to restore electricity faced a new obstacle: heavy rain expected to move in late Monday morning that could bring restoration work to a complete stop. Overnight, Eversource crews reported the restoration of power to 1,500 customers in Bristol.

(WFSB) - Severe thunderstorms swept through Connecticut overnight on the Fourth of July, with winds reaching 60 to 70 miles per hour and leaving more than 70,000 customers without power by morning. In Bristol, a tree crashed through the roof of Michael Lyman’s home, where he has lived for more than 50 years. Branches ripped through the ceilings of two bedrooms and a bathroom. Lyman said he ran to his basement as the tree came down.
