Clinton resident Amanda Auger said her current water bill is “at least in the $200s.” State Sen. Jeff Gordon, R-District 35, opposes the rate increase. “People just can’t afford it,” he said.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jurors reached a verdict Monday in the first-degree murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, charged in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, after a prosecutor argued that Davis’ own words prove he orchestrated the drive-by shooting. Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors in closing arguments that Davis acquired a gun and “went hunting” for Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight after they beat up Davis’ nephew earlier that night.
Springfield police search for missing 14-year-old, possibly in Connecticut
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WFSB) - Springfield police are asking for help locating a 14-year-old boy who ran away from the city on Aug. 11. Police identified the boy as Woldy Ventura. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds. Police said they recently received information indicating Ventura may be in the Hartford, New Britain or Manchester, Connecticut, area. His mother believes he is suicidal, according to police.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Singer D4vd lost his high-profile private lawyers Monday at a hearing where he entered a new not guilty plea to charges that he killed, sexually abused and dismembered 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. It’s not clear why Blair Berk and her colleagues Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter parted ways with the indie-pop singer whose legal name is David Anthony Burke. They were replaced by a lawyer from the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office.
109 New Britain students miss first day of school over vaccine requirement
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WFSB) - On the first day of school in New Britain, 109 students are missing class because they do not have the required vaccines. Those students could face disenrollment. The district updated its immunization policies this year, requiring all students to be vaccinated by Monday to attend class. Schools held vaccination clinics to help students get up to date. Two weeks ago, 300 students were at risk of missing school Monday.
Man on personal watercraft dies after being struck by lightning, authorities say
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WTSP) – A Utah man died Saturday after he was struck by lightning in Florida. According to a GoFundMe page, Steve Matheson was riding a personal watercraft off the coast of St. Petersburg when he was struck. Authorities in Pinellas County said Matheson was initially taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead.
