City of Pensacola to launch AI operator 'Penny' to help answer 3-1-1 calls

Thu, July 2, 2026 at 3:48 PM PENSACOLA, Fla. -- AI is making its way into nearly every industry -- and local government is no exception. The City of Pensacola is soft launching an AI assistant on Monday. The city has named it Penny. She comes with a price tag of about $50,000. The city is bringing on this new technology to help answer 3-1-1 calls. To start, Penny will take overflow calls during office hours when operators are busy. That's everything from a sanitation pickup to a tree trimming request.
