SALINE COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois veteran and his 11-year-old son are preparing for the adventure--and challenge--of a lifetime, and it’s all for a good cause. Sean Dillard and his 11-year-old son Aiden are on a mission to stop veteran suicide. “Twenty-two veterans die from suicide every single day. That’s too many veterans being lost every day,” Aiden said. Sean is a U.S. Army veteran and has struggled with his mental health ever since serving our country from 2006 to 2011.

Tornado kills woman as neighbors try desperately to save her

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS/Gray News) - A woman died Monday when a tornado destroyed her home as her neighbor attempted to rescue her. Delores Shelton was killed when the tornado struck her Jefferson County home. Rodney Gass, who had lived next door to Shelton for 35 years, tried to reach her as the storm approached. “She was on the porch and went in right before the storm hit. I don’t think she even knew it was coming,” Gass said.
