The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that the Earth has already warmed by 1.09 °C, with a greater than 50% chance of reaching 1.5 °C in the near future (2021–2040) (IPCC, 2022). The frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such as heavy rain and droughts, have been observed worldwide (IPCC, 2022). Prolonged droughts are worsening these extreme weather events (Burford et al., 2020).
