Joint association of cytokine gene variants and circulating inflammatory markers with increased breast cancer risk
Abstract The systemic inflammatory milieu, shaped by host genetics, is a key component of the tumor immune microenvironment. This paper anticipated to decode the crosstalk between germline variations in key cytokine genes and their corresponding circulating serum levels in relation to breast cancer risk. The present investigation was conducted involving 160 patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer and 280 matched healthy controls. Serum levels of important cytokines were quantified.
m 6 A modification by METTL3 enhances BIRC6 translation to promote liver tumorigenesis
Abstract N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent internal modification of mRNA and is frequently dysregulated in cancer. However, the roles of m6A and its modifiers, such as the methyltransferase METTL3, remain controversial in primary tumors. We report that METTL3 is upregulated in the highly proliferative human S2 and mouse M2 subtypes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
CDK2-mediated phosphorylation of TRF1 S11 facilitates DNA damage repair by remodeling telomeric chromatin
Abstract Telomeres, coated by the shelterin complex, prevent end-to-end fusions and aberrant DNA repair, yet how telomere-binding proteins coordinate chromatin remodeling during the DNA damage response remains unclear. Here we show that the telomeric protein TRF1 is phosphorylated at serine 11 (S11) in response to DNA double-strand breaks, a modification that enhances cellular resistance to DNA damage.
Fructose 1-phosphate inhibits mannose phosphate isomerase to suppress hepatocellular carcinogenesis
|
Abstract Fructose consumption increases the risk of obesity-related metabolic diseases and some cancers, but its role in hepatocellular carcinogenesis (HCC) remains controversial. Animal studies suggest that high fructose promotes HCC, whereas human data fail to support the positive link between fructose intake and elevated risk of liver cancer.

Nociceptive sensory neuron-derived NGF orchestrates a fibrotic mesenchymal stromal cell neurogenic niche to drive tendon pathological fibrosis - Nature Communications
Abstract Excessive fibrosis, rather than endogenous tissue regeneration, often results from peripheral tissue injury repair, presenting a significant clinical challenge due to its poor reversibility and limited treatment options. A key factor contributing to this outcome is the aberrant commitment of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) to a fibrotic lineage. However, the upstream signals driving this pathological differentiation remain unclear.

Microbiota-shaped neutrophil senescence regulates sexual dimorphism in bladder cancer - Nature Immunology
Abstract Sex disparities have been epidemiologically demonstrated in non-reproductive cancers, yet how the sex-specific intrinsic microbiome orchestrates the immune system to affect these disparities is unclear. Here we identify a subpopulation of RETNLG+LCN2+ senescence-like neutrophils (RLSNs) that preferentially accumulate in the male tumor microenvironment and exert a strong immunosuppressive effect to limit antitumor immunity, resulting in poor prognosis for patients with bladder cancer.

TrailTag: Enhancing the Selection of Moving Targets in Virtual Reality Environments Combining the Comet and Tag Mechanisms
Abstract Raycasting is a common technique for selecting targets in virtual reality, yet selecting small, distant moving targets remains a challenge. Inspired by the comet mechanism, we propose TrailTag, which enhances selection by adding a Trail to each target, dynamically adjusting its activation area based on speed and size. Additionally, a static Tag is attached, allowing selection via either the Trail or Tag depending on the scenario.

Zinc ions activate AKT and promote prostate cancer cell proliferation via disrupting AKT intramolecular interaction - Oncogene
Abstract Prostate is a zinc rich organ and the physiological function of the abundant zinc ions is relatively less understood. AKT kinase is a pivotal regulator downstream of cytokines, growth factors and other extracellular stimuli, and the attachment of its PH domain to PtdIns-3,4,5-P3 (PIP3) and the subsequent phosphorylation of its kinase domain by PDPK1 are considered important for its activation. Herein, we report a regulatory mechanism of AKT kinase by zinc ions.
Carbon sequestration potential of tree planting in China - Nature Communications
Abstract China’s large-scale tree planting programs are critical for achieving its carbon neutrality by 2060, but determining where and how to plant trees for maximum carbon sequestration has not been rigorously assessed. Here, we developed a comprehensive machine learning framework that integrates diverse environmental variables to quantify tree growth suitability and its relationship with tree numbers. Then, their correlations with biomass carbon stocks were robustly established.

Targeting JMJD1C to selectively disrupt tumor Treg cell fitness enhances antitumor immunity - Nature Immunology
Abstract Regulatory T (Treg) cells are critical for immune tolerance but also form a barrier to antitumor immunity. As therapeutic strategies involving Treg cell depletion are limited by concurrent autoimmune disorders, identification of intratumoral Treg cell-specific regulatory mechanisms is needed for selective targeting. Epigenetic modulators can be targeted with small compounds, but intratumoral Treg cell-specific epigenetic regulators have been unexplored.
