12-year-old Lexington boy named hometown hero after saving drowning man

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX News) — A 12-year-old Lexington boy is being hailed a hero after jumping into his apartment complex's pool to save a man from drowning Wednesday night. Avory Woolery was outside with his family when he spotted the man face down in the water. Without hesitation, he dove in. "Because he was drowning and I don't- I'm not going to let somebody drown," Woolery said. Woolery said he was wearing goggles and flippers borrowed from a friend when he made his move.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX News) — Lexington painted the town red, white and blue this Fourth of July — not only to mark America's 250th birthday, but also to celebrate freedom. The annual Fourth of July parade took over downtown Main Street, drawing crowds for floats, live music, food, games and fireworks. "July fourth means freedom," Beth Freeman said. Freeman, a Navy veteran, reflected on what the holiday means to her and to those who have served.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX News) — With temperatures blazing in Central Kentucky, animal care officials are urging pet owners to take extra precautions to keep their animals safe. Jai Hamilton, a cruelty investigator with Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control, said dogs are especially vulnerable in extreme heat. "Dogs can overheat very, very easily. They don't sweat like people," explains Hamilton. She said heat stroke can happen in minutes, and knowing the signs could save your pet's life.
