Habitat for Humanity dedicates a Theodore home for the holidays

With Christmas just over a week away, Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama (HFHSWA) will fulfill Santa's wishlist for Aislynn Reyes when she receives the keys to a new home in Theodore on Friday, December 19. This marks the fourth home dedication this year for the organization and the ninth in less than two years. "Due to rising rent costs and other challenges with renting, I've had to move five times in five years," says Aislynn.

Former Bayou La Batre Police Officer charged with rape wants charges dismissed

William “BJ” Squires is asking a judge to dismiss rape and sexual abuse charges against him for the state's failure to prosecute the case. The motion filed by the Mobile Public Defenders Office asks Circuit Court Judge Michael Windom to throw out the indictments because of “bureaucratic inefficiency.” The filing notes that the DA’s office has stated to the Public Defender’s office that they will not be ready to try the case until June 2026.
