Cardboard boats take over Rapid City pool in creative summer race

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Rapid City Parks and Recreation held its fourth annual Cardboard Boat Race at Roosevelt Swim Center’s outdoor 50-meter pool. Participants built boats from cardboard and raced across the pool. Teams attempted to stay afloat long enough to reach the other side without sinking. Parks and Recreation Specialist Lindsey Myers said the event was created to offer children a different summer activity.

Advocates say homelessness continues through summer months

Working Against Violence Inc. said people are still struggling to find safe places to stay and the organization is reminding the community that help is available. Warmer weather can bring different risks, including heat, dehydration and safety concerns for people staying outdoors or moving from place to place, WAVI said.
