Choice Home Warranty to pay nearly $12 million in Arizona fraud settlement

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced a settlement in a long-running fraud lawsuit with Choice Home Warranty, with the company agreeing to pay nearly $12 million to settle the case while denying wrongdoing. The lawsuit was originally filed six years ago. The Attorney General’s office says Choice Home Warranty failed to replace major appliances it advertised as being covered. “This is the largest settlement of its kind in Arizona history,” Mayes said.

Peoria woman gets surprise $15K hospital bill after insurance contract expires

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A Peoria woman received a $15,000 surprise medical bill after her insurance company’s contract with a Valley hospital expired one day before her scheduled surgery. Terri Griffin needed reconstructive surgery on her nose after having skin cancer removed. The procedure left a large hole that required a series of three operations to repair. “I had a little spot on my nose, and it was not going away,” she said.
