‘Spawn: The Dark Ages’ Returns With A New Miniseries By Liam Sharp
Spawn: The Dark Ages returns with a-new six-issue miniseries via multi-award winning creator Liam Sharp (Wonder Woman, StarHenge) this October from Image Comics/Todd McFarlane Productions. It’s the perfect stage for Sharp’s art too. He was born to draw swords, sorcery, barbarians and beautiful brawlers. And I imagine working on this title will bring him to the attention of a whole new readership too.

“In Brightest Day, in Blackest Night. No evil shall escape my sight.” The Green Lantern, the protector of Space Sector 2814, has said that oath for decades. As a character, Green Lantern has been a mainstay of DC Comics since 1940, with many different heroes wielding the emerald Power Ring. Varying the position of phospholipid acyl chain unsaturation modulates hopanoid and sterol ordering
Abstract The cell membrane must balance mechanical stability with fluidity to function as both a barrier and an organizational platform. Key to this balance is the ordering of hydrocarbon chains and the packing of lipids. Many eukaryotes synthesize sterols, which are uniquely capable of modulating the lipid order to decouple membrane stability from fluidity. Ancient sterol analogs known as hopanoids are found in many bacteria and proposed as ancestral ordering lipids.

NICE Auction offers art by Alan Davis, Liam Sharp, Sean Phillips and more
With the well-received NICE 2023 convention now firmly in the rear view mirror, convention organiser and Northampton’s Panel Gallery owner Jeff Chahal is focusing on the NICE art auction, a fundraiser for next year’s event. With over 50 pieces for this years auction, there’s art a plenty.
Varying the position of phospholipid acyl chain unsaturation modulates hopanoid and sterol ordering
Abstract The cell membrane acts as a responsive interface between the cell and its surroundings. Ultimately, the diverse panel of lipids comprising the lipidome are employed to tune membrane biophysical properties for optimal function. For eukaryotes, a family of amphiphiles called sterols are crucial due to their unique capacity to modulate the order of membrane lipids. Bacteria typically lack sterols, however, some can synthesize a family of sterol-analogues called hopanoids.
Review: Kicking Off The Final Arc In ‘Time Before Time’ #25
Overview This long-running series kicks off its final story arc with a mystery as it starts the difficult tasks of tying up all the loose ends. The writing is strong, but much of the artwork lacks needed details to be effective. Time Before Time begins its final story arc with a mystery. A masked time-skipping vigilante is trying to ensure that the criminal organization Syndicate loses its war across the ages with the equally corrupt Union.

10 Best DC Stories No One Talks About
DC Comics may not have the sales reach that they used to, but it's impossible to deny how many amazing comics the publisher has put out. Books like Watchmen, The Sandman, All-Star Superman, The Dark Knight Returns, and more are constantly praised. DC Comics has put many comics in the last eighty years, but many of them fall through the cracks. While they might've been renowned during their initial release, even great DC stories fade from public memory.

StarHenge, Book One #1-6
The most important thing to remember about King Arthur is that there was no King Arthur. Most people, I dearly hope, know that already, although that might be giving too much credit to public education on either side of the Atlantic. But it’s not really enough to say there was no such person as King Arthur, and no such place as Camelot; certainly no such thing as a Round Table staffed by the bravest and most steadfast warriors in the kingdom.

Grand Designs: Reviewing ‘StarHenge’ #6 By Liam Sharp
Summary Liam Sharp’s cosmic, Celtic ‘StarHenge’ #6 delivers more elegant, textured art with a prosaic narrative that offers up plenty of answers to questions posed throughout this series. A sci-fi fantasy that delivers high-end art in a medium often viewed as low-brow culture. Those who think this way, still, ain’t read this comic, it would seem. StarHenge #6 sees the closing of the first meaty chapter of this Arthurian/Sci-Fi saga.
In Review: Starhenge Book One- The Dragon and the Boar (#1 and #2) by Liam Sharp
Review by James Bacon A future Merlin travels to 5th-century Britain to prevent monstrous time-traveling killer robots from robbing the universe of magic, and Amber Weaver’s lively present-day narrative reveals how she becomes drawn into the war across time… Starhenge delivers beautifully, a majestically painted comic, pouring thoughtful magic into an incredibly realised future, mixing myth with science fiction and bringing a fascinating story vividly to life with amazing art.
Season recaps: Stingers basketball teams battle to the bitter end
McGill guard Jamal Mayali's (10) drive to the basket is contested by Concordia rookie guard Alec Phaneuf (4) in the RSEQ Finals on Saturday. (Matt Garies / McGill Athletics) In a COVID-shortened year, both Stingers basketball teams handled the uncertainty like professionals. Men’s basketball *Concordia lost in the RSEQ Final vs. McGill on Saturday. The final score was 48-46. The Stingers men’s team finished second in the regular season with a 6-6 record.
McGill 58-57 Concordia: Nothing comes free for Stingers in George Lengvari Cup
Concordia guard Sami Jahan (9) drives to the basket during the RSEQ Regular Season match between McGill and Concordia on Thursday, March 17, 2022. (Copyright Reuben Polansky-Shapiro) The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team fall just short of handing the undefeated McGill Redbirds their first loss of the regular season The third annual George Lengvari Cup was a back-and-forth affair that will surely be remembered in the storied Concordia/McGill basketball rivalry.
The Winter Olympics leave much to be desired
Beijing Olympic viewership was the worst the Winter Games have ever posted For most of my life, the Winter Olympic Games took priority in my habitual consumption of sports, no matter where they were being held or what event I was watching. As I got older, I gradually became less obsessed as my schedule swelled and my responsibilities grew, but I still found ways to temporarily set aside personal matters when the Winter Games rolled around.
A long-awaited return to competition for Concordia’s basketball program
The extended pause to the RSEQ regular season was a burdensome time for the Stingers, but has given the teams additional time to fix issues in their game On Monday, the RSEQ announced the resumption of university games as of Feb. 14, following Premier Legault’s press conference last Tuesday. Before the return of the regular season, here’s what you need to know about the Stingers basketball teams.
Brian Flores’ uphill battle against the NFL shows flaws in the league’s hiring process
On Feb. 1, the former Miami Dolphins head coach filed a class-action lawsuit against the NFL and all 32 teams It’s not unusual for drama to surface in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. For some reason, the extra week of hiatus (ignoring the Pro Bowl, because I honestly don’t know a single person who cares) tends to stir the kettle of NFL headlines. A little over a week ago, Brian Flores’ NFL lawsuit became this year’s pre-Super Bowl noise that dominated sports media.
Colour Commentary: Wrapping up the 2021-22 NFL season
An unorthodox Super Bowl matchup, and Tom Brady ends his chokehold on the rest of the NFL The epic conclusion to the 2021-22 NFL season will feature a matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams. The matchup everyone saw coming heading into the season, right? Here are my thoughts ahead of the Feb. 13 championship game.
Colour Commentary: Nick Suzuki is an NHL All-Star
The Montreal Canadiens’ young centre will make his All-Star Game debut on Feb. 4 Before the season, if you told Canadiens fans that Nick Suzuki would be an NHL All-Star in the 2021-22 season, they’d be ecstatic at the news but hardly surprised given his talent level and his performance in the Habs’ Stanley Cup Playoff run last summer. The team as a whole performed exceptionally well, but the 21-year-old Suzuki in particular led the team in goals and points, with seven and 16 respectively.
Montreal Alouette Pierre-Luc Caron also serves as an emergency call dispatcher
The Alouettes’ long snapper will play his sixth season in the CFL — and his second with Montreal — in 2022 On Jan. 21, co-news editor Gabriel Guindi and I caught up with Montreal Alouette Pierre-Luc Caron on The Starting Rotation, our sports talk radio show that airs on CJLO 1690 AM on Fridays at 2 p.m. If you missed the conversation live, here’s the abridged version of the offseason interview.
Update on the basketball/hockey winter season schedule
Ongoing and evolving COVID-19 developments have made the eventual return of university sports a complicated process In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Concordia Stingers basketball and hockey seasons will be postponed until further notice. The latest public update from the RSEQ was shared on Dec. 22, where they announced the suspension of all sports activities until Jan. 9 to comply with the Quebec government.
The Buzz: Stingers weekend recap

Upcoming Comics: November 23, 2021
Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! This week, I’m going to talk about Shang-Chi – a Marvel movie that isn’t the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, yet probably has the best comedic relief I’ve seen across that franchise in a long while. I know it’s a strange thing to be thinking about (especially in a movie that was packed to the brim with some delightfully choreographed action and some genuinely wonderful characters), but what really shocked me was how natural some of the levity was in this film.
Three members of the Stingers awarded RSEQ football individual honours
Stingers quarterback Olivier Roy, slotblack Jaylan Greaves, and defensive end Malick Sylvain are recipients of 2021 RSEQ individual awards Last week, I listed my Stingers’ nominees for RSEQ individual awards ahead of the official football conference on Friday in Montreal. In the end, Stingers sensations Olivier Roy, Jaylan Greaves, and Malick Sylvain stood among the brightest stars in the conference. Roy was awarded the Jeff Russel Memorial Trophy as the RSEQ’s most outstanding player of the year.
McGill 77, Concordia 62: Stingers rookies impress in disappointing start to season
The Stingers lose their season opener against last season’s top-seeded Martlets The Stingers began the 2021–22 RSEQ regular season with a disappointing loss to their rival Martlets on Thursday night. In the 77–62 loss, Concordia’s rookies played major minutes and kept the team in the game, while the team’s senior players struggled with consistency. “It’s encouraging to see our first-year guys play well,” said Rastko Popovic, head coach of the Stingers men’s basketball team.
Stingers football individual awards nominees
Which Stingers have the best shot at receiving awards for their individual performances this season? The Stingers went 4-4 during the 2021 RSEQ football regular season, securing the third seed and a playoff berth for the second year in a row. On Friday, individual season awards will be announced before the Dunsmore Cup, the RSEQ title game. The Stingers won’t run away with every award, but the team boasts strong cases across the board.
The Buzz: Stingers weekend recap
Football, rugby, and soccer wrap up their respective postseasons, and regular season hockey is underway Stingers men’s rugby wins fourth consecutive RSEQ title Stingers defeated McGill 33-0 at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Jean-Christophe Vinette led the Stingers with two tries, and Luca Milne earned MVP honours in a game in which the Redbirds never took off.
Colour Commentary: Montreal Canadiens hit with reality check
Montreal Canadiens fans are rightfully upset with the team’s start to the 2021-22 season, but should they be surprised? The Montreal Canadiens — last year’s Stanley Cup finalists — are a bottom-feeding team in the NHL through the opening stretch of the 2021-22 regular season. The storied franchise that was on the precipice of glory last spring can’t even muster two consecutive periods of quality hockey today. Canadiens fans are rightfully upset, but should they be surprised?
Colour Commentary: Canadian men’s soccer team start strong
Canadian men’s soccer team are on pace to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar Let’s keep it a buck — when you think of sports that Canada excels at, soccer doesn’t usually come to mind. Over the years, the men’s national soccer team has rostered lineups with more than enough talent to succeed at the international level, but there always seemed to be an immovable, invisible hurdle between Canada and the World Cup.
Concordia cheerleading put on the map
Cheerleading team will perform at Stingers home games donning new uniforms Before Monica Knaapen and Arianne Bellerive ushered Concordia’s cheerleading team through their first halftime show in over a year on Oct. 23, the pair took a moment before showtime to reel in their excitement and reflect on how far the club has come. “When I started, the cheerleading program wasn’t very stable,” said Knaapen, who currently studies political science at Concordia with a minor in human rights.
Ottawa 24, Concordia 12: Stingers come up short in competitive regular season finale
Concordia ends the regular season with a 2-4 record, will face Carleton in the opening round of the RSEQ playoffs The Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team played their final game of the RSEQ regular season on Sunday afternoon, losing their second matchup against the Ottawa Gee-Gees by a 24-12 scoring margin. The Stingers secured the third seed in division A with the loss, ending the season with a 2-4 record and setting the stage for a quarterfinal matchup against Carleton next week.
Colour Commentary: Worlds 2021 is here
The League of Legends World Championship in Reykjavík, Iceland is underway For the past few years, I’ve fallen out of touch with playing League of Legends. But right around this time of the year, when the world championships begin, I constantly find myself catching the action, entranced in the esports competition that never fails to impress.
Colour Commentary: 2020 Ryder Cup ends with historic U.S. win over Team Europe
The 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup was held at the Whistling Straits golf course in Haven, Wisconsin The 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup held in Haven, Wisconsin could be summarized in a number of ways — exhilarating, refreshing, and entertaining. Competitive, however, doesn’t make the cut. The fan-favourite tournament is a biennial golf competition between 12-man rosters from the United States and Europe.
Colour Commentary: The puck drops on another NHL season
The National Hockey League’s regular season will start on Oct. 12 The 2021-22 NHL season is upon us, marking the start of another promising run at the Stanley Cup for some franchises and their fanbases, and continued suffering and anguish for others. Here are the teams you should keep an eye out for in the exciting weeks of hockey to come, for better or worse. Montreal Of course, I have to start things off with the local band. I just wish I had an inkling of a clue of what to expect from them.
Upcoming Comics: September 28, 2021
Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! It’s been a big week for comic books – and for me, considering I’ve had to mostly ignore them while dealing with 4 school assessments at the same time. I hear a Sandman trailer came out? Is Morpheus really being played by Chris Pratt? The big thing this week is that Fables is finally returning to the pages of DC Comics.
Colour Commentary: Canadians shine at U.S. Open
The final Grand Slam event of the year put Montreal athletes in the spotlight The 2021 U.S. Open Tennis Championships were held in New York City, but it was the Montreal-natives that captivated the North American masses at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 141st edition of the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year saw Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez reach the women’s finals against Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu.
A long road to recovery for Serena Tchida
Concordia Stingers basketball forward Serena Tchida battled adversity to get to where she is today In 2019, Serena Tchida’s collegiate basketball career was taking off. Playing for Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, her knack for rebounding and finishing around the rim was able to draw the attention of Concordia Stingers head coach Tenicha Gittens in January. Tchida had excelled in basketball since she first picked up the sport at 15 years old.
Colour Commentary: Takeaways from the Draymond and KD interview
Dissecting the Bleacher Report interview between Draymond Green and Kevin Durant In mid-August, Draymond Green, the eccentric power forward for the Golden State Warriors, participated in an interview with NBA superstar and former Warriors teammate Kevin Durant, who has since taken his talents to the Brooklyn Nets. The interview has amassed over three million views and has been the subject of many debates among fans since its release.
Concordia 7 Laval 33: Stingers offence struggles against the Rouge et Or
Concordia make costly mistakes in their season opener loss to Laval The Concordia Stingers drop their season opener to the Laval Rouge et Or, 672 days after the two teams last met in the semifinals of the RSEQ playoffs in 2019. Concordia started the game with possession but turned the ball over on their first play of the game. Olivier Roy, the Stingers’ quarterback, threw on first down into heavy coverage.
Colour Commentary: 2021-22 NFL season predictions
The NFL returned on Sept. 9 with an expanded 17-game schedule With Week 1 of the 2021-22 NFL schedule already under wraps, here are some of my thoughts about the season and what it has in store for fans. How will this year’s 17-game season be remembered? On one end, more football means fans get to bathe in America’s sport for an extra week. More games will also mean less variance in the standings.
Upcoming Comics: August 24, 2021
Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! I don’t know why, but I have been on a huge horror kick lately. I’ve started getting into Dead By Daylight, and I’ve been watching a bunch of the classics that I’ve never seen until recently: Friday the 13th, Scream, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hellraiser, etcetera. Not all of it’s great, but some of it is, and I am eating it up. It’s nice to have a new thing to obsess over with this lockdown continuing… even if it’s starting to distract me from my work a little.
Upcoming Comics: July 27, 2021
Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! So I’m ashamed to say it, but I have a confession: I hadn’t read an issue of Batman in about a year. Yeah, I know, it was bad of me – but since my review of one of Tynion’s issues in His Dark Designs, I just fell off the title and never really got back onto it.
Upcoming Comics: June 22, 2021
Wow, this is a big week! DC’s finally getting back into a rhythm after the mess that was 2020 and the AT&T merger – and while they haven’t pulled me back in just yet, there’s a lot of content that has my attention, if nothing else. Hey, has anyone else noticed that Aquaman’s books have been some of DC’s best and most consistent since 2011? Batman: Reptilian has its first issue launching this week, and it’s definitely been one of the most talked-about bat-books of the year so far.
