Cedar Rapids confirms third data center planned for southwest side

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell confirmed Wednesday that a third data center is planned for the city, with the facility set to be built on the southwest side. According to municipal permitting records, the project will be built at 1515 33rd Ave. SW, just north of Highway 30. Permit documents identify the entity behind the project as CLOP Cedar Rapids, IA LLC and describe the planned building as nearly 100,000 square feet.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (KCRG) - Researchers at Cornell College are turning to an unlikely source to better understand the health of Iowa’s waterways: turtles. As part of the college’s Summer Research Institute, students are measuring native turtles, collecting blood and DNA samples and tracking their movements to learn how environmental changes, including water quality and climate change, affect their health.

The Iowa Department of Transportation uses an audible warning system on crash attenuator trailers to alert distracted or speeding drivers who are getting dangerously close to road crews working just feet away. The trailers are designed to absorb the impact of a crash before a vehicle reaches a dump truck or workers farther ahead.
