Contrasting plant trait strategies underpin ecosystem stability in temperate and alpine grasslands
Abstract Plant functional traits are key drivers of ecosystem stability, yet the extent to which trait-stability relationships vary among different ecosystems remains poorly understood. Here, we provide a comparative analysis of trait-stability relationships across temperate and alpine grasslands.
Hippocampal AdipoR1 regulates the microglial response and delays disease progression in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease
Abstract Adiponectin, a key regulator of peripheral lipid metabolism, exhibits a positive correlation between its reduced peripheral and central levels and cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Previous studies suggest that adiponectin primarily crosses the blood–brain barrier to exert its neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects within the brain. However, the detailed mechanisms through which adiponectin improves cognitive function in AD remain unclear.

Offshore wind offers China much more than carbon cutting
Compared to solar, offshore wind produces power across a different daily and seasonal profile. In the aggressive scenario, this difference reduces the use of storage needed to balance the system. National battery discharge falls by 54 TWh and pumped hydro by 29 TWh. Average annual storage discharge drops by 81 per cent in Zhejiang, 43 per cent in Jiangsu and 19 per cent in Guangdong. These effects represent system value that a comparison of generation costs does not capture.
Offshore wind offers China much more than carbon cutting
Around half of the world’s offshore wind capacity is in China and that share is growing. In July, the country set an ambitious target to grow its roughly 47 gigawatts (GW) of capacity to 100 GW by 2030. Debate over offshore wind often returns to a simple objection: each kilowatt-hour costs more to generate than one from solar or onshore wind. But that comparison misses some of offshore wind’s value.
Distinguishing schizophrenia and bipolar disorder through disorder-specific network revealed by contrastive machine learning
Abstract Schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar disorder (BD) are severe psychotic disorders with overlapping clinical manifestations, leading to high rates of misdiagnosis. This study aims to identify disorder-specific neurophysiological biomarkers using electroencephalography and contrastive machine learning to improve differential diagnosis. Resting-state electroencephalography was recorded from 52 patients with BD, 65 with SCZ, and 75 healthy controls.
Latitude-Dependent Sensitive Areas for Targeted Observations of Mesoscale Eddies Associated With Sea Surface Height Anomaly Forecasts
1 Introduction Oceanic mesoscale eddies are ubiquitous coherent rotating structures of water with radial scales ranging from 25 to 250 km and lifetimes spanning 10–100 days, which can be considered as an approximation to the geostrophic balance (Chelton et al., 2011).
Dietary pattern optimization accounting for behavioral heterogeneity enhances environment–health synergies
Abstract Dietary shifts pose dual challenges of environmental stress and health risks. When assessing the environmental and health benefits of dietary pattern optimization, existing studies often neglect the impact of heterogeneity on dietary behaviors of residents.
Quasi-ballistic ion transport in a vertical microrod enabling efficient evaporation-driven power generation
Abstract Evaporation-driven power generation harnesses atmospheric thermal energy via streaming potential, but sluggish, non-directional fluid flow causes waste heat dissipation, limiting the power density. Here we demonstrate a machine learning-guided vertical microrod generator (VMG) that generates a directional Laplace pressure gradient for rapid fluid flow, thereby realizing quasi-ballistic ion transport.
Splicing-mediated control of hnRNPD isoform switching by SRSF2 drives PD-L1-dependent immune evasion in gallbladder cancer
Abstract Gallbladder cancer (GBC), a lethal malignancy of the biliary tract, is associated with a poor clinical prognosis. Although chemo-immunotherapy combinations demonstrate preliminary efficacy, the molecular determinants of treatment response remain elusive. Emerging evidence implicates aberrant alternative splicing in modulating tumor immunity. Through an in vitro CRISPR/Cas9 screen, we identified SRSF2 as a key RNA-binding protein regulating PD-L1 expression.

Multitrophic interaction networks mediate biodiversity effects on ecosystem multifunctionality
|
Abstract Biodiversity loss threatens the multifunctionality of ecosystems on which human well-being ultimately depends. Multitrophic species interactions may be key to explaining the ecological consequences of biodiversity loss, but research explicitly linking species interactions and ecosystem multifunctionality remains rare.

Intelligent label-free droplet microfluidic sorting system for single-cell encapsulation and morphology-guided screening
Abstract The label-free extraction of cellular morphological data from within droplet microenvironments, and its subsequent translation into reliable, high-precision sorting, continues to pose a central challenge in the field of droplet microfluidics. Here, we develop an intelligent label-free droplet sorting (ILFDS) system by integrating droplet microfluidics, real-time image recognition, and dielectrophoresis (DEP) sorting.
Physics-informed neural Volterra compensation enabling over 2600× efficiency improvement in 12,057-km ultra-long-haul coherent transmission
Abstract Fiber nonlinearity limits reach and capacity in long-haul coherent systems. Here we present a single-step, physics-informed neural approach to nonlinear compensation that preserves the parallel structure of the Volterra-series transfer function while learning data-driven corrections, unlike widely used digital back-propagation, which reconstructs propagation with numerous cascaded steps and therefore incurs high computational complexity and latency at comparable performance.

EEG hyperscanning reveals dynamic interbrain network patterns during interactive social decision-making
Abstract Social decision-making involves intricate and dynamic interactions between brains, yet prior hyperscanning research primarily concentrated on investigating the overall patterns of interbrain synchrony (IBS), leaving its fine-grained temporal dynamics unveiled.
Temporal synchrony and spatial similarity of interbrain subnetworks predict dyadic social interaction
Abstract Human social behaviors involve complex interactions between individuals, and understanding how interbrain neural activity reflects and predicts these interactions is critical for advancing social cognitive neuroscience. While electroencephalography (EEG) hyperscanning has been widely used to explore interpersonal neural dynamics, most studies focus on pairwise regional coupling, overlooking the brain’s intrinsic network-level organization.

Advances in external therapies of traditional Chinese medicine for the management of hyperuricemia: a comprehensive review
1 Introduction Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disease that leads to the increase of serum uric acid (SUA) level due to excessive uric acid production or insufficient excretion in the body (1–3). Under normal circumstances, uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism, which is mainly excreted by the kidney. When the serum uric acid concentration exceeds 7.0 mg/dL, hyperuricemia can be diagnosed (4).

Activating silicon for high hydrogen conversion and sustainable anode recovery - Nature Communications
Abstract The hydrolysis/methanolysis of silicon has received considerable attention to achieve efficient and on-demand hydrogen conversion. However, the intense covalent network and highly localized electrons in pure Si impede its reactivity with water (H2O) or methanol (CH3OH), thereby hindering the hydrogen release. In this work, we report the synthesis of Zintl phase alkalis-Si alloys via simple ball-milling or sintering, showing eminent performance in enhancement of H2O/CH3OH dissociation.
Gene transcription, neurotransmitter, and neurocognition signatures of brain structural-functional coupling variability - Nature Communications
Abstract The relationship between brain structure and function, known as structural-functional coupling (SFC), is highly dynamic. However, the temporal variability of this relationship, referring to the fluctuating extent to which functional profiles interact with anatomy over time, remains poorly elucidated. Here, we propose a framework to quantify SFC temporal variability and determine its neurocognitive map, genetic architecture, and neurochemical basis in 1206 healthy human participants.
