Extremely stripped supernova reveals a silicon and sulfur formation site
|
Abstract Stars are initially powered by the fusion of hydrogen to helium. These ashes serve as fuel in a series of stages1,2,3, transforming massive stars into a structure of shells. These are composed of natal hydrogen on the outside and consecutively heavier compositions inside, predicted to be dominated by He, C/O, O/Ne/Mg and O/Si/S (refs. 4,5). Silicon and sulfur are fused into iron, leading to the collapse of the core and either a supernova explosion or the formation of a black hole6,7,8,9.

Topological Characterization and Uncertainty Visualization of Atmospheric Rivers
1. Introduction Atmospheric rivers are long, narrow bands of highly concentrated water vapor in the atmosphere. They transport large amounts of moisture over great distances in a “river”-like structure, often from the tropics to the mid-latitudes [RDC*18]. ARs play a pivotal role in the Earth's hydrologic cycle and are potentially responsible for 90% of the global moisture transport [ZN98].

Olfaction foraging in visually oriented tropical arboreal ants Oecophylla smaragdina: Implications for insect predation studies using artificial sentinel prey
Abstract Predation is the key to understanding trophic interactions. Because of the brief and cryptic nature of predatory behavior, sentinel prey has been widely adopted as an indirect way to identify predators and understand trophic interactions. However, sentinel prey presents only static visual cues, potentially biasing toward visually oriented predators whilst ignoring those that require other sensory cues to forage. Despite this, the effectiveness of sentinel prey has rarely been tested.

Brief change in dopamine activity during consolidation impairs long-term memory via sleep disruption
Abstract Sleep disturbances are associated with poor long-term memory (LTM) formation, yet the underlying cell types and neural circuits involved have not been fully decoded. Dopamine neurons (DANs) are involved in memory processing at multiple stages. Here, we show that brief activation of protocerebral anterior medial DANs (PAM-DANs) or inhibition of a pair of dorsal posterior medial (DPM) neurons during the first few hours of memory consolidation impairs 24 h LTM.
