VIDALIA, Ga. — The Georgia Forestry Commission provided a detailed account of the Highway 82 Fire response during a House Rural Development Committee meeting on Thursday. Director Johnny Sabo told committee members the Brantley County wildfire resulted in the worst home loss from a single fire in Georgia history, with 110 homes destroyed and 27 homes damaged. The fire burned 22,419 acres, 10,000 fewer acres than the Pineland Road Fire, which happened simultaneously.
