Fine-tuning of polygenic score to local data improves risk prediction and clinical implementation
Abstract Polygenic risk scores (PRS) hold promise for stratifying inherited disease risk, yet their clinical adoption remains constrained by poor transferability across populations and cohorts. To bridge this gap, we propose a pragmatic framework that recalibrates externally derived PRSs to local datasets through machine learning-based optimization.

N-terminal thrombospondin-1 enhances muscle function and tissue-specific metabolic adaptation in response to exercise and cold exposure
Abstract Exercise and cold exposure elicit partly overlapping metabolic adaptations through distinct mechanisms. Here, we sought to identify circulating factors shared by these stimuli. We found that exercise and cold exposure upregulated thrombospondin-1 (TSP1) expression in skeletal muscle and brown adipose tissue (BAT) and induced the release of its N-terminal fragment (N-TSP1).
Genetic evidence supports the combined targeting of lipoprotein(a) and LDL cholesterol to reduce coronary artery disease risk
|
Abstract Distinct genetic mechanisms govern how lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) promote atherosclerosis. It remains unclear whether targeting both provides additive cardiovascular benefits. Here we use coding loss-of-function variants in LPA and PCSK9 and genetic scores associated with Lp(a) and LDL-C levels to evaluate the effects of lowering Lp(a) and LDL-C on coronary artery disease (CAD) risk.

Multicolor electrochromic actuators for biomimetic skin-muscle coupling
Abstract Soft robotic platforms require actuators that integrate robust mechanical actuation with dynamic visual feedback; however, achieving muscle-like actuation alongside optical transduction in a compact form factor remains challenging. Here, we present a multicolor electrochromic actuator (ECA) that delivers large-strain, muscle-like contraction and RGB optical output by synergistically integrating a thermoresponsive liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) with viologen-based electrochromic ion gels.
Sheet-Size-Dependent Mosaicity of 2D Phyllosilicate Membranes
1 Introduction Two-dimensional (2D) material membranes have emerged as an important class of separation materials [1-4]. The 2D membranes leverage unique properties of 2D materials such as (near-) atomic thickness, robustness, functionalizability, and impermeable surfaces, to precisely engineer nano and sub-nanometer channels, which is a challenging task for conventional membranes [5, 6]. The 2D membranes are generally classified as either nanoporous atomically thin membranes or laminar membranes.
Selective Polarity Control of Metal Oxide Semiconductors for Complementary Logic Gates

1 Introduction Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute vasculitis that primarily affects children younger than 5 years and remains the leading cause of acquired heart disease in this age group [1-3]. Although its precise etiology remains unclear, KD is widely considered to reflect an abnormal immune response to infectious triggers in genetically susceptible children [4, 5].
Intrinsic polyunsaturated fatty acid synthesis capacity dictates ferroptosis sensitivity under restricted arachidonic acid availability
Abstract Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent type of regulated cell death driven by lipid peroxidation, in which polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in membrane phospholipids serve as key substrates. Here, we identify PUFA biosynthetic capacity as a key determinant of ferroptosis sensitivity under arachidonic acid (AA)-limited conditions.
Alignment switching in 3D-printed smectic liquid crystal elastomers
Abstract Extrusion-based additive manufacturing has emerged as a powerful platform for designing shape-morphing materials through controlled orientation. However, existing approaches primarily rely on a single mode of flow-induced alignment, limiting orientation programmability. Herein, we present a direct-ink-writing approach for smectic liquid crystal elastics that exploits two distinct alignment modes within a single ink.

Bond–electromagnetic origin of superconducting pairing across materials
Abstract We develop a bond–electromagnetic framework in which superconducting pairing originates from dynamic covalent bonds whose fluctuations generate a real–space pairing kernel. Bond–centered singlets emerge from these structural fluctuations, while long–range superconductivity appears when they become electromagnetically frozen into a phase–coherent network, as quantified by the London kernel and the superfluid stiffness.
Combating small extracellular vesicle–mediated immunological barriers in the tumor microenvironment via strategically activatable PEGylated peptides
Abstract Tumor cell-derived small extracellular vesicles (TDEs) play a critical role in immune evasion, including the establishment of an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME), and form a substantial barrier to effective cancer immunotherapy. Here, we introduce the ExoPERM (pH-enabled rupture of exosome membranes) strategy, a pH-responsive system based on small extracellular vesicle (EV)-disrupting alpha-helical peptides that selectively target small EVs localized within the TME.
Glucuronidation metabolomic fingerprinting to map host-microbe metabolism
|
Abstract Glucuronidation is an important detoxification pathway that operates in balance with gastrointestinal microbial β-glucuronidase (GUS) activity, which can regenerate bioactive metabolites from their glucuronidated forms. How this host-microbe interaction shapes the distribution and pool of glucuronidated metabolites (i.e., the glucuronidome) remains poorly understood.
