Conservation as an Alternative Pathway for China and the United States in the Arctic
Abstract The Arctic environment is changing rapidly. Some recent international efforts are designed, at least in part, to reduce additional human impacts in the region. These efforts include the designation of shipping lanes in the Bering Strait and the agreement not to open the Central Arctic Ocean to fishing until at least 2037. At the same time, several countries have placed increasing emphasis on the Arctic regarding national security concerns and geopolitical competition.
Large language models decode narrative pathology reports to define clinically relevant subtypes in IgA nephropathy
Abstract Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease worldwide, with a highly heterogeneous clinical course. Current biopsy-based risk assessment relies largely on structured histological scores, such as the Oxford MEST-C score, which summarize selected lesions but may omit information contained in routine narrative pathology reports.

An open-source screening platform accelerates discovery of drug combinations - Nature Communications
Abstract Drug combinations are essential to modern medicine, but their discovery remains slow and inefficient as experimental complexity expands rapidly with each additional drug tested. Although modern liquid handling systems enable complex and highly customizable experimental designs, a lack of strategies integrating these technologies with combination-specific analytical methods has limited throughput.

Frontiers | Neurocognitive risk markers in first-episode major depressive disorder with positive family history: a large-scale case–control study
Introduction Major depressive disorder is highly heritable (h² ≈ 40%–70%) (1). Meta-analyses of never-depressed first-degree relatives demonstrate small to medium deficits in intelligence, memory, and language (2, 3). Whether these deficits represent premorbid vulnerability markers or epiphenomena remains unresolved (4).

Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling determines neuroblastoma cell fate and sensitivity to retinoic acid - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Retinoic acid (RA) is a standard-of-care neuroblastoma drug thought to be effective by inducing differentiation. Curiously, RA has little effect on primary human tumors during upfront treatment but can eliminate neuroblastoma cells from the bone marrow during post-chemo maintenance therapy—a discrepancy that has never been explained.

Gene Regulatory Network topology governs resistance and treatment escape in glioma stem-like cells
Abstract Poor prognosis and drug resistance in glioblastoma (GBM) can result from cellular heterogeneity and treatment-induced shifts in phenotypic states of tumor cells, including dedifferentiation into glioma stem-like cells (GSCs). This rare tumorigenic cell subpopulation resists temozolomide, undergoes proneural-to-mesenchymal transition (PMT) to evade therapy, and drives recurrence.

A CRISPR-drug perturbational map for identifying compounds to combine with commonly used chemotherapeutics - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Combination chemotherapy is crucial for successfully treating cancer. However, the enormous number of possible drug combinations means discovering safe and effective combinations remains a significant challenge. To improve this process, we conduct large-scale targeted CRISPR knockout screens in drug-treated cells, creating a genetic map of druggable genes that sensitize cells to commonly used chemotherapeutics.

Soft End Effector Using Spring Roll Dielectric Elastomer Actuators
1. Introduction Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) consist of an elastic dielectric membrane sandwiched between two compliant electrodes (Figure 1). DEAs have a very high energy density, allowing them to outperform other actuators when weight is constrained [1]. Actuating the bulk material allows for smaller form factors (subgram) and more resilient actuators due to their low inertia [2].

2. Results 2.1. Spatial Transcriptomic Analysis in rd1 Mice In this study, spatial transcriptomic analysis was performed on frozen sections of eyes from C57BL/6J mice (n = 4) and rd1 model mice (n = 4) with RP (Figure 1A). The age range of the mice selected for this study was from P14 to P35. The application of spatial transcriptomic technology in rd1 mice allowed for efficient sampling and differential expression analysis of the different retinal layers between the RP and control groups.

Theoretically Evaluating Two-Dimensional Tetragonal Si2Se2 and SiSe2 Nanosheets as Cathode Catalysts for Alkali Metal-O2 Batteries
Nonaqueous alkali metal (AM)–O2 batteries are promising next-generation energy storage devices due to their outstanding specific capacity and energy density. However, the high charge–discharge overpotential and slow electrochemical reactions limit their development. Highly active cathode catalysts can solve this problem. Based on first-principles calculations, we theoretically explore the application potential of Si2Se2 and SiSe2 nanosheets as potential cathode electrocatalysts.
