High-risk antimicrobial resistance genomic traits in multidrug-resistant Salmonella across China’s food chain: projections to 2050
Abstract Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is rising globally, yet factors shaping its genomic evolution remain poorly understood. We investigated how socioeconomic, climate, and health factors are associated with AMR spread in multi-drug resistant (MDR) Salmonella enterica across China’s food chain, mapped hotspots and forecasted genomic trait prevalence to 2050.
TRIM28 SUMOylates IRF3 in astrocytes to drive neutrophils infiltration and ischemic cerebral injury
Abstract Crosstalk between the nervous and immune systems is responsible for ischemic cerebral injury. However, the molecular mechanism and regulatory network underlying this interaction still have not been completely illuminated. In this study, we found that the E3 SUMOylase Tripartite Motif-Containing Protein 28 (TRIM28) was primarily upregulated in astrocytes after ischemic stroke (IS), and elevated plasma TRIM28 levels correlated with poor prognosis in IS patients.
Defect passivation and optical management of triple-junction solar cells
|
Abstract Perovskite/perovskite/silicon-based triple-junction solar cells are a promising low-cost route to surpass the Shockley–Queisser efficiency limit of single-junction photovoltaics, but their performance is constrained by non-radiative losses in wide-bandgap perovskites and sub-optimal light management across the multilayer stack1-3. Here, we introduce a passivating molecule, 4F-POEABr, which strongly suppresses surface-defect-mediated recombination of WBG perovskite films.

Biomolecular condensates as dynamic regulators of musculoskeletal homeostasis, disease, and therapeutic challenges
Abstract Biomolecular condensates are membraneless assemblies that concentrate proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules into dynamic cellular compartments. Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) is one important route by which such condensates form, particularly when multivalent interactions generate liquid-like, reversible assemblies. However, not every condensate or disease-associated assembly should be explained solely by LLPS.

Inhibition of PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy enhances the susceptibility of breast cancer to cuproptosis
Abstract Cuproptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death characterized by the accumulation of copper ions in the mitochondria, the formation of DLAT oligomers, and the depletion of Fe-S cluster proteins. However, the alterations in mitochondrial morphology and function during cuproptosis and the potential role of mitophagy in cuproptosis remain insufficiently elucidated.
Globally and intergenerationally unequal exposure to hourly heat extremes
Abstract Heat extremes are intensifying under climate change, yet these events are traditionally identified using daily temperature metrics, which fail to capture the full dynamics of heat events. Here we present a global assessment of hourly heat extremes (HHEs) in summer, and show that HHEs are emerging worldwide and exhibit marked unequal exposure across regions and generations.

A high-resolution (daily and 1 km) atmospheric moisture collection over the North China Plain during 2003–2020
Abstract Near-surface atmospheric moisture is a key component of the climate and environment systems, exerting significant influences on both nature and human beings. However, existing moisture data are often limited by sparse observations and low spatial/temporal resolution, which restricts their applicability at fine scales, particularly in populated and urbanized regions with strong moisture variability, such as the North China Plain (NCP).
Sediment shape as a proxy for fluvial processes: A factorial analysis in the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon
INTRODUCTION Sediment morphology, encompassing key attributes such as size, shape, texture and fabric, provides critical insights into sediment provenance, depositional environments and transport histories. Among these, sediment shape characteristics are widely recognised as a fundamental proxy in sedimentology and fluvial geomorphology, offering valuable records of hydrodynamic conditions and mechanical transport processes (Graham & Midgley, 2000; Szabó et al., 2015; Deal et al., 2023).

Allelic variation of Avr genes in highly virulent strains explains severe wheat stem rust epidemics - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Wheat stem rust is a disease of global importance caused by the fungal pathogen Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt). Here we generate chromosome-level, nuclear-phased genome references for Pgt isolates ETH2013-1 and ITA2018-1, representing races TKTTF and TTRTF respectively, that have caused major epidemics in Africa and Europe. The nuclear haplotypes of ETH2013-1 and ITA2018-1 are unique and unrelated to those of Ug99 and Pgt21.

Mutation in HER1 enhances stigma exsertion and hybrid seed production in rice - Nature Communications
Abstract Hybrid rice has achieved a significant leap in rice yield, but the low outcrossing rate of sterile lines limits hybrid seed production due to rice’s self-pollinating habits, constraining the further development and widespread adoption of hybrid rice. Stigma exsertion is a critical trait affecting outcrossing rate. Here we characterize a rice mutant, high exsertion rate1 (her1), characterized by enlarged stigma and enhanced stigma exsertion.

Global monthly CMIP6-downscaled high-resolution (1 km) near-surface air temperature dataset (1950–2100) - Scientific Data
Abstract Temperature projections from general circulation models (GCMs), serving as an important approach of understanding future global warming, are essential for developing adaptation and mitigation strategies of climate change. However, the coarse spatial resolutions (~1–3°) limit their effectiveness at fine-scale (e.g., intra-urban) research. Here, we produced MoCHAT, a global monthly CMIP6-downscaled high-resolution (1 km) near-surface air temperature dataset.

Rapid flips between warm and cold extremes in a warming world - Nature Communications
Abstract Rapid temperature flips are sudden shifts from extreme warm to cold or vice versa–both challenge humans and ecosystems by leaving a very short time to mitigate two contrasting extremes, but are yet to be understood. Here, we provide a global assessment of rapid temperature flips from 1961 to 2100. Warm-to-cold flips favorably follow wetter and cloudier conditions, while cold-to-warm flips exhibit an opposite feature.

Targeted degradation of endogenous condensation-prone proteins improves crop performance
Abstract Effective methods, such as CRISPR and RNA interference, exist for modulating gene expression at DNA and RNA levels, but approaches for directly modifying endogenous proteins remain lacking in plants. Here, we develop a targeted condensation-prone-protein degradation (TCD) strategy to eliminate endogenous proteins, particularly those prone to condensation. We identify an E3 ligase, E3TCD1, that degrades itself but selectively targets other proteins when fused to them.
