Trump gives Christmas subsidies to farmers, lumps of coal to others
This is an opinion column During the Christmas season, President Trump announced a $12 billion supplemental taxpayer subsidy to farmers to “offset bad Biden policies.” Others say the subsidies are to offset Trump’s trade wars and resulting retaliation against American agriculture. Consistent with that latter view, during Trump’s last trade war in 2019, he gave farmers $19 billion in supplemental taxpayer subsidies.
Some Republicans in Alabama support open borders and illegal aliens
This is an opinion column The 2010 Tea Party revolution gave Alabama its first Republican legislature in 136 years. Since then, a tidal wave of liberal Democrats switched parties to win elections . . . while keeping their liberal beliefs. Conservatives call them “RINOs.” These RINOs and their special interest masters who fund their campaigns work tirelessly to undermine conservative GOP values. They are effective at it, and they collectively control Alabama’s legislature.
The first time I heard Trump explain his thoughts on public policy
This is an opinion column We convened in the White House’s cabinet room, a long, rectangular room with a table stretching from one end to the other. Members of the House Freedom Caucus sat at the table or along the wall on the room’s west side, facing the Rose Garden. Opposite us sat President Donald Trump, Vice-President Mike Pence, the President’s cabinet (including then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions), and everyone who was anyone in the Trump White House. It was 2017.
It’s about time America started killing narco-terrorists before they kill us Original
This is an opinion column Detractors and drug cartel sympathizers can vocally complain all they want about the sudden change in the war on drugs and the recent destruction of narco-terrorist boats. But President Trump has made his strategy clear to all: “I don’t think we’re going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war. … I think we’re just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. OK? We’re going to kill them, you know?
New York City votes for a tax nightmare, and sends a warning to conservatives
This is an opinion column Republican knives are out for Zohran Mamdani after his crushing victory as New York City’s mayor-elect. The Republican National Committee says Mamdani is “a self-proclaimed Communist.” Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz says “Comrade Mamdani … is a full-on Communist.” Mamdani denies this, saying he is a Democrat Socialist, not a Communist. But that’s what Mamdani would say if he is a Communist.

Is the GOP tired of all Trump’s winning yet?
This is an opinion column Remember President Trump loudly promising in his stump speeches that Republicans and Americans were going to win so much we would get tired of it? Oh, how I wish it was so. On Tuesday, Democrats beat Republicans like a drum across America. Democrats dominated New Jersey and Virginia. In New York City, a Socialist (Communist?) Democrat handily won the New York mayor’s race.

These three misguided Alabama Republicans help Democrats win
This is an opinion column Too often Republicans, motivated by naivety, self-interest or egos, help Democrats win elections. Such is the “off the charts” proposal to discriminate against naturalized American citizens – a plan advocated by Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, Sen. Donnie Chesteen, R-Geneva, and Rep. Rhett Marques, R-Baldwin (the latter having been endorsed by U.S. Sen.
These three misguided Alabama Republicans help Democrats win
This is an opinion column Too often Republicans, motivated by naivety, self-interest or egos, help Democrats win elections. In seismic terms, their damage to Republican candidates across America has the potential to reach a cataclysmic “10” on the Richter scale, thereby handing the next White House, House and Senate to socialist Democrats. What have they done that is so egregious?
There’s a simple solution for shutdown games in Congress
This is an opinion column “I can’t” never does. That’s what coaches regularly tell players. Unfortunately, when it comes to passing appropriations bills that prevent government shutdowns, “I can’t” is Washington’s mantra. Just as coaches remove ball players who say they “can’t” do what’s required, voters should similarly remove DC politicians who say they “can’t” stop government shutdowns. Because they can. The solution to preventing government shutdowns is simple: timely pass appropriations bills.
When it comes to tariffs, no president is above the law
This is an opinion column Some Op Eds are salacious, sexy, and about the rich and powerful think Jeffrey Epstein or Stormy Daniels. Those headlines attract readers like nectar attracts bees. This column is nothing like those, but it is far more important to the lives of American citizens. Bear with me. The issue is whether President Donald Trump, or any president, has the power to unilaterally raise taxes without a vote of Congress.
Buddy Carter, Mo Brooks, Cleta Mitchell, Jason Sorens
On today’s program: Buddy Carter, U.S. Representative for the 1st District of Georgia, weighs in on the possibility of President Trump deploying the National Guard to other major metro areas following success in D.C. Mo Brooks, Former U.S. Representative from Alabama, discusses President Trump’s announcement to move the Space Command to his home state. Cleta Mitchell, Senior Legal Fellow at Conservative Partnership Group, considers the constitutionality of requiring Voter ID in every state.
Trump was right to send the National Guard to fight crime in DC
This is an opinion column A half-century ago, my dream job was being a “white knight” prosecutor helping crime victims in the fight between good and evil. I got to live that dream for four years, first as a Tuscaloosa assistant district attorney and then as the Madison County district attorney. That law-and-order fire in my belly prompts me to write about President Trump’s ordering national guard and other federal resources into Washington, DC. The FBI collects crime data in America for public use.
President Trump must put up or shut up on July jobs report
This is an opinion column The Bureau of Labor Statistics (“BLS”) jobs report for July found “little change” since April, that non-farm payroll jobs increased by just 73,000 and the unemployment rate worsened to 4.2%, Meanwhile, May’s estimated job gains were “revised down by 125,000 (from +144,000 to +19,000)” and “June was revised down by 133,000, from +147,000 to +14,000”.
Antarctica research facilities: What an Alabama congressman saw at the South Pole
This is an opinion column Mo Brooks is a retired congressman from north Alabama and a long-standing conservative voice in state and national politics. He now writes an opinion column for AL.com. CODELs (short for “Congressional Delegation” trip) help office holders better understand the world and foreign affairs so that better policy decisions are made. All of my CODEL trips were once-in-a-lifetime experience, but the one to otherworldly Antarctica uniquely stands out.
Check the math. Cuts to public radio don’t fix a dangerous national debt.
This is an opinion column Politicians mislead. Math reveals truth. DC Republicans recently passed a host of budget cuts, including trimming spending for National Public Radio and PBS, which includes Alabama Public Television. As expected, the left moans and wails and cries, “The sky is falling!” in every media outlet they can access. What is the truth? Symbolically: The cuts are a big deal. Substantively: The cuts are miniscule.
Melania Trump deserves a medal for convincing president to support Ukraine
This is an opinion column. Melania Trump was born in communist Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) and moved to America in 1996 at age 26 to pursue a modeling career. In 1998, at age 28, Melania began her relationship with then 52-year-old, still-married-to-Marla Maples, Donald Trump. The rest is history. Melania Trump’s Slovenia is not far from Ukraine. It’s less than 400 miles; about like driving from Birmingham to Baton Rouge for an LSU-Bama football game.
‘B’ is for bankruptcy - not beautiful - in Trump’s big bill
This is an opinion column House Resolution 1 (HR1) is more commonly known as the “Big Beautiful Bill,” or “Big Bad Bill,” or “Big Bankruptcy Bill,” depending on your point of view. I’ll set aside political marketing and call it HR1. To best understand HR1, first understand America’s debt. In fiscal year 2024, Deficits happen when you spend more than you take in. We spent a lot more. That year spending exceeded revenue by 37%. Interest on America’s debt that year was $882 billion.
Mo Brooks: How conservative is your Congressman? Here’s how to check
This is an opinion column In my experience, citizens want to do the right thing at the ballot box but too often fail because it is difficult to find accurate data. Voters’ basic question is, “Are our values represented in Congress by those we vote for?” Here are some tips on how to be better informed. Do not rely on the veracity of the news releases of senators or congress members when you vote. If you do, odds are you have been duped. That’s not to say politicians lie (although they sometimes do).
Mo Brooks: Importance of political nicknames - Commander in Chief TACO vs Comrade Kamala
This is an opinion column Donald Trump’s ability to market and brand himself and others is his greatest political strength. Trump is simply the most effective politician I’ve ever seen at using insulting nicknames that brand, degrade and ridicule political foes and turn winnable races into losing ones. Jeb Bush was “Low Energy Jeb.” Marco Rubio was “Little Marco” (with related unkind sexual implications). Ted Cruz was “Lyin’ Ted.” All lost to Trump’s branding in the 2016 GOP primary.
Mo Brooks: This isn’t Hogwarts. Trump doesn’t have a magic wand to fix drug prices
This is an opinion column While President Donald Trump may wish he lives and works in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and has Harry Potter’s magic Elder Wand at his disposal, the reality is he works and lives in the White House and wields a pen. While presidents often act like executive orders solve problems, history says they are short-term band-aids: good fanfare and politics that solve little to nothing.
Mo Brooks: Donald Trump copies Richard Nixon, asks Alabama to rescue his falling poll numbers
This is an opinion column When I heard President Trump would speak at the University of Alabama’s graduation exercises, the first thing that came to my mind was disgraced President Richard Nixon. Weird, right? No. Not when you think about it. I well remember the media hype of Nixon’s Honor America rally in Huntsville on Feb. 18, 1974, an event co-hosted by Governor George Wallace. At the time, Nixon was an embattled president struggling through the 1972 election Watergate debacle.
Mo Brooks: Trump bungles trade wars & economy
This is an opinion column The public loves Trump’s border security efforts. But the public hates Trump’s tariff tax hikes, trade war, and economic failures. For emphasis, Trump deserves credit for fighting for trade balances. Too many presidents avoid the issue. But Trump’s goal is not the problem. Balanced trade is good. The problem is that Trump fumbles the fight.
Mo Brooks: When Donald Trump sort of apologized
This is an opinion column White House Christmas Parties for Congressmen, Senators and their spouses are extravagant. The Christmas décor is spectacular. The food is plentiful and delicious. But this story begins in 2016 with Senator Ted Cruz. That’s when I was Alabama Chairman for Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential race. As Chairman, I advocated for and defended Senator Cruz.
Mo Brooks: The words of Alabama Republicans don’t match their votes on national debt
This is an opinion column Alabama Governor George Wallace quipped there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between Republicans and Democrats. Wallace are prophetic on America’s debt issue. Democrat debt junkies rush to push America over a devastating financial cliff. Republican debt junkies do the same but at a little slower pace. Either way, the result is the same: a debilitating national bankruptcy and insolvency that ushers in America’s worst era in history.
Republicans and Democrats do it. But I refused to pay for a committee chair in Congress.
This is an opinion column In 2010, voters elected me to Congress. Shortly after being sworn in as Alabama’s 5th District Congressman, I received a bill demanding I pay the National Republican Congressional Committee $300,000. The NRCC exists to help Republicans win office. Inasmuch as the NRCC endorsed a party-switcher -- former Democrat and now Democrat again Parker Griffith -- over me in the GOP Primary, I was taken aback by the NRCC’s brazen gall. I asked for advice from colleagues.
Media strategy to fool voters: Skew the jobs reports
This is an opinion column Once upon a time the federal government compiled and released economic data; the media disseminated it; and businesses and the public reasonably relied on it. Those days are long gone. Now days, political forces warp and distort almost all economic data in hopes of affecting voters in the next election. Media reporting on the recent U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, February 2025 jobs report mirrors these media biases.
Mo Brooks: Who were the losers in the Zelenskyy/Trump media debacle?
Mo Brooks is a retired congressman from north Alabama and a long-standing conservative voice in state and national politics. He now writes an opinion column for AL.com. The Media Debacle involving President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the worst I’ve seen emanating from America’s White House. Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is its only winner. Ukraine President Zelenskyy, Ukraine, President Donald Trump, and America are among its many losers. How so? Zelenskyy lost.
Mo Brooks: Trump spending cuts don’t go far enough. Time to reign in the debt junkies.
Mo Brooks,a retired Congressman from north Alabama, writes an opinion column for AL.com. Many vilify President Trump and the few financially responsible Republicans in Congress for daring to cut USAID, the federal work force, and the like.
Former U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks: Congressmen secretly up compensation by over $39,000
Candidates run for Congress knowing their salary is $174,900 per year, out of which they pay living expenses in their home states and Washington, DC. Congressional compensation increases should be used to attract better candidates for Congress, not reward those who happen to win. On Dec.
Abandoned By Trump, Mo Brooks Is Now Open To Testifying About Jan. 6
But as of Wednesday, Representative Bennie G. Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi and the head of the Jan. 6 committee, acknowledged that Mr. Brooks still had not been served with a subpoena. Mr. Thompson said that process servers in Washington had been unable to track down Mr. Brooks because he had been campaigning in Alabama. Key Revelations From the Jan. 6 Hearings Mr. Brooks’s disclosure that he could cooperate to some degree with the Jan.
Brooks concedes Republican Senate ticket to Britt
By WVUA 23 Digital Reporter Kyle Hamrick U.S. Representative Mo Brooks conceded the Republican nomination for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat to Katie Britt Tuesday evening, an hour and a half after statewide polls closed. The former member of Senator Richard Shelby’s office was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, who rescinded his earlier endorsement of Brooks. She will face Democratic nominee Will Boyd and Libertarian candidate John Sophocleus in the Nov. 8 general election.

Mo Brooks: I just want Alabama and America to be great
I got into this U.S. Senate race for one reason: I have never before feared for the future of my country like I do today. I think many of you feel the same way. I’ve heard it from thousands of Alabamians while traveling our state. Jim in Muscle Shoals was worried about being able to afford putting enough $4 per gallon gas in his car to get to work. Sarah in Foley was struggling to find baby formula to feed her newborn son. I’ve heard from you, and I feel your pain.
Correcting Steve Flowers on several points
By ohtadmin | on May 04, 2022 Mo Brooks I have known Katie Britt surrogate and “former” liberal Democrat Steve Flowers for many decades. Flowers’ columns repeatedly attack Mike Durant and me, or promote Katie Britt (the largest tax increase supporter of any Republican in Alabama history). Flowers argues in his Katie Britt attack piece, “A Mo Brooks Story,” that I “truly believe in less government even if that […] Please login or subscribe to view this page.
GOP Congressman Filed Affidavit Unintentionally Waiving His Own Immunity
(Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images) While the media loves launching into a lot of shocked bellyaching over the size of Biglaw bills, it usually fails to grasp just how important it is for elite attorneys to take research down some fairly attenuated rabbit holes.

Alabama Rep Mo Brooks Gets Served, Tweets Password, Declares Flawless Victory
(Photo by Samuel Corum/Getty Images) After his colleague Eric Swalwell sued him for inciting the Capitol Riot, Congressman Mo Brooks spent three months playing Catch Me If You Can with the process server. Because the guy who hopes to be Alabama’s next senator is simultaneously 67-years-old and also 12. Rep. Brooks ginned up the crowd on January 6, urging them to “stop at the Capitol” because “Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass.” In March, Rep.
Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks Beats Chest For MAGA Rioters, Cowers In Fear Of Process Server
Congressman Mo Brooks is no stranger to creative legal theories. The Alabama representative sued the Commerce Department in a recently dismissed case alleging that it was unconstitutional for the census to count non-citizens for the purpose of congressional allocation. And he even co-sponsored a bill purporting to abolish birthright citizenship.

Man Who Organized 'Stop The Steal' Rally Says Three Congressmen Helped Him Plan It
New Day's John Berman introduced the shocking story (okay, not that shocking, considering the people involved) that the organizer of the Washington sedition rally says he had help from several Republican members of Congress. "Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama already facing calls for censure, John. But as the Department of Justice announces, it's looking for instigators of what happened. These three congressmen could be in much worse trouble than just a censure.

Rep. Mo Brooks: I support Donald Trump because he stands for security, prosperity and liberty
I support Donald Trump for president because his policies are right for America. In contrast, Joe Biden’s policies are dead wrong. America is the greatest nation in world history. Our standard of living is envied by most. Our military prowess is unmatched. Our individual freedoms and liberty are unequaled. America is great because our foundational principles give us the liberty and freedom to excel as individuals, which means collectively we excel as a nation. NEWT GINGRICH: WILL TRUMP WIN? YES.

Sewell votes for bill to try to prevent foreign interference in future elections
Wednesday Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-Selma) voted for H.R. 4617, the SHIELD Act (Stopping Harmful Interference in Elections for A Lasting Democracy Act). The legislation is intended to protect against foreign interference in America’s elections, including by foreign governments. “There is nothing more fundamental to the strength of our democracy than the sanctity of our elections and defending them against foreign interference and attacks,” Representative Sewell said.
Mo Brooks and Bradley Byrne: Trump’s Alabama Bootlicker Boys
News Today 5:58 AM Brooks and Byrne: Bootlicker Boys This is an opinion cartoon. Mo Brooks and Bradley Byrne. Trump can always count on these two Alabama hicks to lick his clown boots. Even his bloody ones. Trump doesn’t care. He doesn’t even know their names. As I’ve said before, Mo doesn’t know any better. But Bradley Byrne does. At least he used to. Byrne used to be a pragmatic, sensible statesman until he grew an extra face and a forked tongue.

Disgraced Former Justice Roy Moore Leads Poll For GOP Senate Nomination In Alabama
Roy Moore, the former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court who was twice removed from the bench due to his willful failure to follow the orders of a Federal District Court, is leading in a new poll of the Republican primary for the Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions: Moore has 30 percent support in the JMC Analytics and Polling survey. He is followed by Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala.), with 22 percent, and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), who had 19 percent.
