Excess copper compromises hippocampal function in major depressive disorder: a study on clinical and animal evidence
Abstract Dysregulation of copper (Cu) metabolism may contribute to the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD) by disrupting hippocampal function. The aim of this study is to elucidate the neurobiological mechanisms through integrated clinical and animal experiments. A total of 85 MDD patients and 65 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited for this study. Serum Cu, ceruloplasmin (Cp) levels, and the relative mRNA expression of ATPase copper-transporting alpha (Atp7a) were measured.
Swallowing-Related Quality of Life After Carotid Body Tumor Resection: A Longitudinal Trajectory Analysis
1 Introduction Carotid body tumors (CBTs), the most common type of head and neck paragangliomas, are highly vascular lesions arising from the chemoreceptor cells of the carotid sinus [1]. CBTs are very rare vascular tumors with a relatively low incidence (1 in 30 000) [2]. The pathogenesis of CBTs is thought to involve both chronic hypoxia-induced paraganglionic hyperplasia and hormonal factors, with the latter—particularly estrogen—potentially explaining the observed female predominance [3-6].
Synergistic effects of nicotine and hyperlipidemia induce cardiac damage via dynamic cardiomyocyte-based biosensing
Abstract Cigarette smoking and hyperlipidemia are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. However, the mechanisms underlying their synergistic cardiotoxic effects remain insufficiently elucidated, particularly at the cellular electrophysiological level. To address this, we developed an electrophysiological biosensing platform to establish a real-time co-exposure model that simulates the combined stress of nicotine and palmitic acid-induced hyperlipidemia on the primary rat cardiomyocytes.
Phase engineering of atomically thin magnetic chromium tellurides via molecular beam epitaxy
Abstract Crystal structure engineering is pivotal for tailoring material properties, particularly in atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal chalcogenides that exhibit rich, crystal-phase-dependent electronic, optical, and magnetic properties. However, their crystal-phase-controlled synthesis remains a critical challenge that limits their practical applications.
LINC00312 increases gemcitabine sensitivity in nasopharyngeal carcinoma by recruiting PABPC1 and modulating PAX5-mediated transcription of LPLUNC1
Abstract Gemcitabine resistance is an important factor in the treatment failure of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). LINC00312 has been reported to associate with chemotherapy toxicity and chemoradiotherapy response in NPC. However, the molecular mechanism by which LINC00312 regulates NPC sensitivity to gemcitabine is unclear. We found overexpression of LINC00312 or LPLUNC1 inhibited NPC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and increased gemcitabine sensitivity.
MEMS vapor cells-based Rydberg-atom electrometry toward miniaturization and high sensitivity
Abstract Rydberg-atom electrometry, as an emerging cutting-edge technology, features high sensitivity, broad bandwidth, calibration-free operation, and beyond. However, until now the key atomic vapor cells used for confining electric field-sensitive Rydberg atoms nearly made with traditional glass-blown techniques, hindering the miniaturization, integration, and batch manufacturing.

High-risk EBV promotes immune evasion in nasopharyngeal carcinoma by upregulating HLA-DP via the encoded BALF2-HR variant
Abstract Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is prevalent in East and Southeast Asia, with genetic factors playing a significant role in its occurrence. The HLA gene region on chromosome 6 is linked to NPC susceptibility, but the mechanisms remain unclear. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is a well-established cause, with 95% of NPC patients being EBV-positive. Three key variations in the EBV genome (162215_C, 162476_C, 163364_T) in the BALF2 gene are strongly associated with NPC risk.
The cGAS-STING pathway in cancer: friend or foe
Abstract The cGAS-STING pathway is crucial for recognizing aberrant DNA in the cytoplasm and activating the innate immune response. After detecting aberrant DNA in the cytoplasm, cGAS can catalyze the synthesis of cGAMP from ATP and GTP, which acts as a second messenger to engage STING and unleash type I interferons, thereby eliciting a robust antitumor immune cascade. In recent years, the role of the cGAS-STING pathway in tumor immunity has attracted widespread attention.

Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! All land plants produce cell walls built around crystalline cellulose embedded in a water-swollen matrix of other polysaccharides and biopolymers. Primary cell walls formed by all growing plant cells consist mainly of cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin. In contrast, many specialized cells, such as xylem vessels, fibers, and sclerenchyma, deposit thick secondary cell walls composed primarily of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and the derived dodecapeptide function as Toll-like receptor 4 antagonists in acute lung injury - Nature Communications
Abstract The neurotrophic factor (NTF) family has recently expanded its role beyond neurological conditions, but its involvement in acute inflammatory lung diseases remains largely unclear. Using well-established acute lung injury (ALI) and sepsis models, we demonstrate that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a key NTF, is impaired in pulmonary epithelial cells and negatively correlates with the inflammatory response.
Transcriptomic analysis reveals that BVDV alters immune and metabolic responses to Brucella abortus A19 in RAW264.7 macrophages
Abstract Background: The co-occurrence of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection and brucellosis in cattle is common. However, the effect of BVDV-induced immunosuppression on the efficacy of the Brucella abortus (B. abortus) A19 vaccine remains unclear. We hypothesized that BVDV infection suppresses the host immune response to the B. abortus A19 vaccine by dysregulating key immune-related genes, thereby potentially affecting vaccine immunoprotection.
