Transcriptomic comparison of the infrapatellar fat pad between young patients with traumatic knee injury and older patients with knee osteoarthritis
ABSTRACT Purpose The infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) is increasingly recognized as an active contributor to knee osteoarthritis (KOA) pathogenesis. However, age-related transcriptional changes in the IFP remain poorly understood, and whether observed differences are purely age-dependent or confounded by disease status is unclear. This study aimed to compare transcriptomic profiles of the IFP between young patients with traumatic knee injury and older patients with KOA.
Association of delayed swallow screening with stroke-associated pneumonia and in-hospital outcomes in acute stroke patients in the neurocritical care unit
Abstract Background: Stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) is a frequent and devastating complication after acute stroke. Although early dysphagia screening is strongly recommended by guidelines, its implementation is often delayed in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro-ICU). The precise continuous dose–response relationship between screening delay time and SAP risk has not been adequately quantified.
Early prediction of minimal residual disease in colorectal cancer via SEPTIN9 methylation status in circulating tumor DNA
Abstract Objective Minimal residual disease (MRD) is a major cause of postoperative recurrence in colorectal cancer (CRC), significantly impacting survival outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the methylation status of the SEPTIN9 gene (mS9) in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a biomarker for detecting MRD and predicting recurrence in post-surgery CRC patients.
Piconewton-sensitive cell stethoscope using an optical microcantilever
Abstract Cell mechanics is essential for understanding cellular motion, function and disease, and relies on measuring forces ranging from piconewtons to micronewtons in liquid environments. Yet, despite extensive technological developments, precisely monitoring cellular forces without perturbing their natural motion remains challenging, requiring a highly adaptable force sensor with piconewton-level sensitivity.
Spatial transcriptomic analyses highlight distinct erythroid niches in mice and humans
Abstract Erythroid cells require specialized microenvironments called erythroblastic islands (EBIs), niches comprising a central macrophage surrounded by developing erythroid precursors, to complete their maturation. Understanding EBI composition and function has been limited by two-dimensional in vitro models and the unclear composition of EBIs in human hematopoietic tissues.

Effects of herbaceous root development on soil water infiltration and hydraulic properties in loess
Abstract Root development alters soil pore structure and connectivity, thereby affecting un-saturated water movement; however, its growth-stage-dependent effects on infiltration and hydraulic properties in loess remain poorly quantified. In this study, one-dimensional soil column infiltration experiments were conducted on Festuca arundinacea root–soil composites under root distribution conditions corresponding to different growth stages (T = 0, 35, 52, 76, and 99d).
Helicobacter pylori –induced PPFIA4 orchestrates immune network–promoting gastritis and gastric bacterial colonization
Abstract Bacteria-modulated gastric epithelial cells (GECs) play key roles in Helicobacter pylori–associated pathology. Here, we demonstrate both procolonization and proinflammation roles of GEC-derived PPFIA4 in H. pylori infection. PPFIA4 was elevated in GECs from gastric mucosa of H. pylori–infected patients and mice. PPFIA4 could be synergistically induced by H. pylori and IL-33 via the CagA/AP1 pathway. Human gastric PPFIA4 correlated with H.

‘Becoming Chinese’ craze highlights soft power twist
A new trend is sweeping through Western social media – “Chinamaxxing.” Across TikTok and Instagram, many users are professing to be “in a very Chinese time of their lives,” or even “becoming Chinese.” They showcase practices like drinking hot water, learning Mandarin and performing traditional qigong exercises. This trend decouples “Chineseness” from citizenship and ethnicity, reconfiguring it into a cultural symbol that can be learned and performed.

Multi-cohort analysis of metagenome for type 2 diabetes identified universal gut microbiota signatures across populations
Abstract Several studies have investigated the association between the gut microbiota and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) in various populations. Nonetheless, noises specific to individual cohorts might distort the microbial dysbiosis characteristics and result in inconsistent findings across studies. Thus, we aimed to identify the universal features of perturbed gut microbiota across diverse populations.
Concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus nimotuzumab versus chemoradiotherapy alone for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma with a suboptimal response to induction chemotherapy: a randomized phase 2 trial
|
Abstract Induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is the standard treatment for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC); however, patients with a suboptimal response to IC, defined as detectable Epstein–Barr virus DNA and/or stable or progressive disease after IC, remain at high risk of treatment failure.
