(WSFA) - Starting Nov. 1, more than 750,000 Alabamians will not receive receive SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown, according to the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). In anticipation for an unprecedented surge in customers in need, The Heart of Alabama Food Bank is doubling its efforts to help the community. The food bank, which sends resources across 35 Alabama counties, distributed more than 33 million pounds of food last year.

LifeSouth blood supplies critically low, asking for community support

(WSFA) - The blood supply is so low right now that LifeSouth is having a hard time meeting the needs of hospitals. “It’s an honor to be able to say that we supply all of the hospitals here 100%,” said District Recruitment Manager Melinda Hinds, “but it’s also a huge responsibility and we have to have those products.” Summer is always a tough time for blood donations, but LifeSouth says this year has been brutal.
