Danville weighs using Caesars Virginia gaming tax revenue to lower local taxes and fees

DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) — Danville residents could see some tax relief tied to the city’s growing casino revenue, as city leaders consider using gaming tax dollars from Caesars Virginia to lower personal property taxes and offset a proposed utility increase. City Councilman Lee Vogler said that now that Caesars Virginia is generating consistent revenue, Danville citizens should reap the benefits.

Danville Area Humane Society pays $500 fine amid record-keeping allegations, skips hearing

DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) — The Virginia Board of Pharmacy accused the Danville Area Humane Society of record-keeping violations tied to euthanasia records. The board has scheduled an informal conference in Henrico to discuss the allegations later this month. As of now, the hearing is still set for June 24 in Henrico, and the humane society is not required to attend.

Martinsville looks at combining city services with county to offset $5M budget shortfall

(WSET) — Martinsville city leaders are working to close a $5 million budget shortfall they say is hitting this year, with city officials pointing to the end of American Rescue Plan Funding and a lack of long-term planning for when that money ran out. City Manager Rob Fincher is proposing consolidating some city services with Henry County as a way to cut costs rather than significantly raising taxes.
