Cahaba Elementary principal Joy Tyner remembered, outdoor classroom named in her honor

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - The Trussville City Schools Board of Education voted Thursday, July 2, to name an upcoming outdoor classroom project after the late Cahaba Elementary School Principal Joy Tyner. Before retiring in the spring of 2026, Tyner had served 10 years at Cahaba Elementary and around 40 years as an educator. She died Tuesday, June 30, after a battle with cancer. She was 62. The Trussville City Schools board vote will see the space named the Joy Tyner Outdoor Classroom.

CENTER POINT, Ala. (WBRC) - A fire at an abandoned condo complex off Center Point Parkway Monday, June 29 was the second blaze this year at the former Woodside Condominiums on Shadowwood Circle. Center Point City Council President Glenn Williams, Sr. said the complex has been abandoned since he first joined the council six years ago. “I’ve been in term for six years. Ever since I’ve been in term, this complex has been like this, all the time,” Williams said.

North was an assistant district attorney for the Bessemer division of the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. On Sunday, June 28, North was acting as a spotter for the Pell City Sail Club at an ongoing race on Lake Logan Martin in St. Clair County.
