An Action 2 News viewer shared voicemails that made her pause—calls claiming to be from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office. The message sounded formal and time-sensitive, but didn’t quite pass the “real” test.

Task-based scams trick ‘employees’ into paying the ‘employer’

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A Consumer First Alert: A new study by the Wisconsin Business Bureau shows scammers are using new tactics to target job hunters. It involves task-based scams, such as paying you to like online videos. But after victims complete the tasks with the promise of money, the scammers say there was an error in payment and asks the victim for money to continue. These types of scams are exploding right now, with the BBB saying reports of employment scams have doubled from last year.
