The City of Peoria said the lobby of the police department, at 600 SW Adams St., is open Monday-Friday from 9-5 p.m. City fire stations are open from 7-7 p.m. every day. Those using a fire station as a cooling center may have to leave if firefighters are called away. The Peoria Public Library is welcoming those seeking shelter from the heat to their five locations throughout the city. Every location has slightly different hours, which are available on the library’s website.

Man in serious condition after being hit by gunfire in Normal

NORMAL (25News Now) - A man is in serious but stable condition after being hit by gunfire late Thursday in Normal. Officers were called around 11:50 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of North Golfcrest Road, finding the man with apparent gunshot wounds. Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident in which the victim and suspect know each other. There is no information currently to indicate an ongoing threat to the public. Police said a suspect is in custody.

PEORIA (25News Now) - Peoria Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man, missing since Tuesday. Ernest Porter III, 64, was last seen Tuesday. He’s known to frequent the Schlarman House and area in the vicinity of Wayne Street. Police describe Porter as a Black man, around 155 pounds, around 5 feet 7 inches, with either short gray-and-black hair or a shaved head, brown eyes, with a gray beard.
