Factors associated with blood flow velocity in the upper limb of cancer patients with peripherally inserted central catheters: a cross-sectional study
Abstract Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) are widely used in cancer care for long-term intravenous access, yet complications such as thrombosis remain a concern. Blood flow velocity is a key hemodynamic parameter closely associated with thrombosis risk. However, limited research has focused on the factors influencing blood flow velocity in cancer patients with PICC placement. This cross-sectional study enrolled 405 cancer patients who underwent PICC insertion.
KLF4/MLL3 complex axis drives NRBP2 transcription to eliminate acute myeloid leukemia cells
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous malignancy rooted in hematopoietic stem cell dysregulation. Here, we identify the transcription factor Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) as a potent suppressor of AML growth, with KLF4 overexpression markedly impairing AML cell proliferation. Mechanistically, KLF4 interacts with the lysine methyltransferase 2 C (MLL3/KMT2C) histone methyltransferase complex to activate transcription of nuclear receptor-binding protein 2 (NRBP2), a pseudokinase.
Dimensionally Engineered Nanotherapeutics for Pulpitis and Periodontitis: From Structural Design to Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Precision Therapy
Introduction Oral infectious diseases are among the most prevalent pathologies in clinical dental practice. Among these conditions, pulpitis (Pul) and periodontitis (PD) are particularly common in clinical practice.
A Resilient World Economy: Outlook for the Second Half of 2026
In the US, we expect continued solid growth, elevated inflation, and the Fed to remain on hold. In the euro area, surveys point to an improving growth outlook, but US–Iran hostilities could pause that trend. Although we expect real GDP to contract in Q3, in quarter-on-quarter terms, we believe Japan’s economy will remain on a recovery path.
PUMILIO proteins maintain lineage balance via post-transcriptional repression of germline fate and promotion of somatic differentiation
Generation of Pum1 and/or Pum2 knockout mESCs Paired guide RNAs (gRNAs) targeting specific sequences within exon 12 of Pum1 and exon 6 of Pum2, with a spacing of 5–30 bp (Figure S1A), were designed using the Benchling-sgRNA online tool (https://www.benchling.com/crispr/). Each sgRNA pair was cloned into a pGL3-U6-sgRNA-PGK-puromycin vector (Addgene plasmid Cat# 51133).
Asia Rewired: Eleven Forces Reshaping the Region
Asia stands at a critical juncture. The transition from a unipolar to a multipolar world order, China’s rise and the AI revolution have all unleashed simultaneous shocks, including supply-chain realignments, geoeconomic fragmentation, rising economic nationalism and increased volatility. For a region that has thrived under open trading systems, these shifts are challenging the growth models of both developed and emerging Asian economies alike.
Reframing halal for global consumers
Saudi Arabia is seeking to reposition halal from a label focused on religious permissibility to a broader trust mark that explicitly encompasses food safety, quality and nutrition. This matters because halal markets are expanding globally and because, in many non-Muslim settings, ‘halal’ is still reduced in public discourse to slaughter practices rather than understood as a holistic system of standards.
PIWIL3-piRNA pathway controls rabbit oogenesis and embryogenesis via broad regulation of the transcriptome and proteome
Abstract Female infertility often arises from oogenic defects, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. The Piwi-piRNA pathway is crucial for gametogenesis, but its role in mammalian female fertility remains unclear, partly due to reliance on mouse models lacking PIWIL3. PIWIL3 exits in most other placental mammals and is highly expressed in human oocytes, but its function remains largely unexplored.

Impact mechanisms and spatial effects of new quality productive forces on healthcare resource allocation in China
Abstract Since the implementation of China’s healthcare reform in 2009, healthcare resource allocation has improved, yet significant regional and urban-rural imbalances persist, exacerbated by the misallocation of medical capital and labor. Such inefficiencies hinder service equalization and the “Healthy China 2030” goals.
China’s Unique Advantage in the Global Energy Crunch
The Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have driven global energy prices sharply higher. Benchmark prices of LNG in East Asia and Europe have increased by 87.7% and 58.7%, with Brent crude oil also up 79.3% in March. Many might assume China is the most vulnerable to these disruptions, as the world's largest energy consumer and net importer of crude oil and natural gas, with 38% of its oil and 23% of its LNG transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.

Uncovering complex phonon interactions in Mg 3 Bi 2- x Sb x : topology and avoided crossings
Abstract Mg3Bi2-xSbx compounds have emerged as promising mid-temperature thermoelectric materials, due to their excellent electrical performance and the ultralow thermal conductivity. In this study, we investigate the complex phonon interactions in Mg3Bi2-xSbx compounds and reveal nontrivial symmetry-protected topological crossings and avoided-crossing phenomena in the phonon dispersion, arising from the strong coupling between the acoustic and low-energy optical phonons.
Middle East Hostilities May Deepen Global Economic Divergence
The outbreak of hostilities with Iran has dramatically raised economic uncertainty worldwide. Europe is highly dependent on oil and gas imports, but the European Central Bank (ECB) highlighted that it is well positioned to navigate this uncertainty. In contrast, as a net energy exporter, the US economy is largely insulated from recent energy price moves.

China Economic Outlook
Over the past five years, China has grappled with the collapse of its property market while its export performance has remained remarkably strong China’s exceptional export growth is unlikely to be sustainable over the long term as global trade normalizes and protectionist pressures mount Policies in social reform are crucial to China’s recovery and success in the years ahead China's 14th Five-Year Plan ends this year, with the 15th set to commence in 2026.
Asia Macro Outlook 2026: Mind The Gap
2025 can be distilled down to one word – resilience. Despite increased US trade protectionism, Asia's exports held up, supported by strong AI demand, transshipment and a gradual ramp-up in tariffs. Yet domestic demand, especially private consumption, remained soft, which helped keep inflation subdued and allowed central banks to lower policy rates closer to neutral. As we look ahead to 2026, three key questions define the outlook. Will growth broaden beyond AI? Will inflation rebound?

What Effect Will China's Stock Market Rally Have on the Economy?
While China's stock markets have reached decade-highs, Nomura economists question whether this rally can meaningfully boost the country’s growth outlook. The previous stock market bull run China experienced a decade ago was unable to provide a meaningful boost to the real economy, and our economists expect even less expansionary effect this time. The boom and bust in 2014-15 In 2014-15, China’s stock markets experienced a dramatic boom and bust cycle.

Global Economic Outlook Monthly: The Fed is Back in Play
US: The Fed is likely to ease in September Employment growth in the US is rapidly losing momentum, consistent with broader signs of below-trend growth in 2025. Recession risks remain elevated; however, our base case is a slow but continued expansion, supported by healthy consumer balance sheets and stable financial conditions for businesses. Inflation remains well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, and we believe risks are skewed to the upside with year-end core PCE at 3.1%.

China’s Consumption Needs More Than a Subsidy Quick-Fix
Facing challenges from US tariffs and a struggling property sector, China has been trying to boost domestic consumption and stabilize economic growth. A durable goods trade-in program that debuted in mid-2024 has been a key scheme that has subsidized a wide range of goods purchases including digital products, home appliances and automobiles. The outcome so far appears to be encouraging, with retail sales growth rising to 5% y-o-y in the first five months of 2025 from 3.8% in Q4 2024.
The Shipbuilding and Maritime Industry
The Geneva meeting between the US and China resulted in an unexpected 90-day reprieve, but tensions between the worlds’ two largest economies remain highly elevated, as evidenced by the recent mutual accusations of undermining the Geneva Agreement and the escalations in non-tariff measures. Both parties recognize that exceptionally high tariff rates could lead to a cessation of trade, which is a scenario neither desires.
China: A Major Step to Modernizing the PBoC’s Policymaking
While fiscal policy is widely expected to play a more vital role in reviving China’s economy, China’s monetary policy framework is undergoing a substantial transition towards a Western-style system that hinges on short-term policy rates.
Global Economic Outlook: Uncharted Territory
Nomura economists believe average US tariff levels will be around 15% at the end of 2025, substantially higher than at any time since before World War II. This will amount to stagflationary shock on the US, i.e. contributing to weak growth and rising inflation, but for the rest of the world we it will be more of a negative demand shock, i.e. weak growth and falling inflation. This is why Nomura expects many central banks to cut rates further in coming months, while the Fed stays on hold.

A bacterial methyltransferase that initiates biotin synthesis, an attractive anti-ESKAPE druggable pathway
Research Article STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY INTRODUCTION The water-soluble vitamin B7, biotin, is an indispensable micronutrient throughout the three domains of life (1). Unlike plants and most of bacterial species that program biotin synthesis pathways (1), humans cannot make this coenzyme. In general, gut commensals behave as a major group of biotin suppliers for mammalian biotin-dependent carboxylases/decarboxylases (2, 3).
