Grain boundary segregation of ceramic aerogels for reliable thermal insulation at extreme conditions
Abstract Thermal insulation under extreme conditions requires materials to have high thermal stability and insulating properties to guarantee the critical system functionality and safety in aerospace, military, and high-temperature industries. Ceramic aerogels are the most attractive candidate to date, but due to the grain growth effect at high temperatures, they still suffer from insufficient structural stability and degraded thermal insulation that can lead to catastrophic failures.

Serum uric acid variability and short-term mortality in chronic kidney disease: a retrospective cohort study with independent replication in MIMIC-IV
Abstract Inroduction: Within-person variation in serum uric acid (SUA) may reflect clinical instability, but its association with outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is uncertain. Methods: We studied 10,556 adults with EHR-defined CKD and at least three SUA measurements during a 365-day baseline window across a nine-hospital consortium.
Clinically informed preoperative risk stratification for MRI-defined non gross-total resection in nonfunctioning pituitary neuroendocrine tumors: a single-center internal validation study
Abstract Introduction: Preoperative estimation of non-gross-total resection (non-GTR), as defined on early postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), may support patient counseling and postoperative surveillance planning after surgery for nonfunctioning pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (NF-PitNETs). We evaluated whether a clinically informed, interpretable preoperative modeling strategy improved risk estimation compared with a reference strategy.
Serum uric acid-to-albumin ratio as a novel predictor of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events in hemodialysis patients: a retrospective cohort study
Abstract Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in patients undergoing hemodialysis. The uric acid-to-albumin ratio (UAR), a novel marker, has been linked to cardiovascular diseases. However, its role in patients undergoing hemodialysis has not yet been studied. We aimed to investigate the association between UAR and the all-cause mortality and CVD events in hemodialysis patients.
Impact of albumin variability during the first year on prognosis in peritoneal dialysis patients
Abstract This multicenter retrospective study aimed to evaluate the association between the coefficient of variation (CV) of serum albumin during the first year of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and clinical outcomes, including technique failure and all-cause mortality. We enrolled patients who initiated PD between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2024 from three medical centers and maintained treatment for over one year.
Self and socially shared regulation patterns of computer-supported collaborative argumentation: an entropy analysis and ordered network analysis
Abstract Computer-supported collaborative argumentation (CSCA) requires effective self-regulated learning (SRL) and socially shared regulated learning (SSRL). This study examines the synergy between students’ SRL and SSRL behaviours during CSCA. 55 secondary school students in Singapore were divided into 15 groups of three to four to complete a collaborative argumentation task. Group discussions and online log data were collected and coded using an adapted coding scheme for SRL and SSRL behaviours.
Prognostic value of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index for renal function progression in patients with CKD stages 3–4
Abstract Background: The progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health issue. Insulin resistance (IR) is a key mechanism, but simple biomarkers to predict progression in patients with established CKD stages 3–4 are needed. The Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a reliable surrogate for IR. We aimed to investigate the longitudinal association between the baseline TyG index and the risk of renal function progression in patients with CKD stages 3–4.

Sex differences in gene expression and alternative splicing in the Chinese horseshoe bat
Limitations of the study In this study, we identified far more DSGs between males and females than DEGs in both brain and liver, whereas a recent study detected far fewer DSGs between sexes than DEGs in birds (Rogers, Palmer & Wright, 2021). This contrast may be resulted from different kinds of tissues used between studies (reproductive tissue in (Rogers, Palmer & Wright, 2021) while somatic tissues in this study).

Experimental Investigation on Vortex-Induced Vibration Mitigation of Stay Cables in Long-Span Bridges Equipped with Damped Crossties
Abstract In this study, based on the high energy-dissipating capacity of viscoelastic dampers with shearing deformation, damped stay cable crossties were proposed to mitigate the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of stay cables in long-span bridges. Viscoelastic dampers were installed at the connection points of cable crossties to dissipate the kinetic energy of stay cable vibration. Three stay cable models incorporating different numbers of damped crossties were set up in a wind tunnel.
Hexokinase 2-dependent Hyperglycolysis Driving Microglial Activation Contributes to Ischemic Brain Injury
Hyperglycolysis, observed within the penumbra zone during brain ischemia, was shown to be detrimental for tissue survival due to lactate accumulation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction in clinical and experimental settings. Recently, mounting evidence suggests that glycolytic reprogramming and induced metabolic enzymes can fuel the activation of peripheral immune cells.
