The Aesthetic Paradox: How Visual Aesthetic Quality Shapes Digital Engagement on Social Media
Abstract Visual aesthetic quality (VAQ) is one of the most salient image characteristics of social media advertising, yet its nuanced effect on digital engagement remains underexplored. Building on existing research on the “beauty premium” and the “ugliness premium,” this research posits that the effect of VAQ follows a U-shaped pattern. Accordingly, a multi-study framework is proposed to verify both correlational and causal relationships.
misoTar: a novel approach for predicting miRNA and isomiR targets
Abstract Understanding microRNA/isomiR–mRNA interactions has long been a major challenge. Although many computational methods exist for predicting miRNA–mRNA interactions, almost all fail to account for isomiR–mRNA interactions. To bridge this gap, we developed misoTar, a fine-tuned BERT-based deep learning model trained on over 6.660 million positive and negative microRNA/isomiR–mRNA interaction pairs from 67 publicly available human samples across six studies.
ISGylation-mediated stabilization of CYP4Z1 fuels breast cancer initiation and progression
Abstract Tumor-initiating cells (TICs) are central to cancer progression and metastasis; however, they remain challenging to target therapeutically. Here, using a breast-specific CYP4Z1-transgenic MMTV-PyMT mouse model, we show that CYP4Z1 notably accelerates tumor initiation, enlarges tumor size, promotes metastasis, and expands TIC populations. Multi-omics analyses reveal that CYP4Z1+ epithelial cells exhibit enhanced stemness and reduced differentiation compared with CYP4Z1− counterparts.
MSTO1 modulates RAD51 activity to safeguard mitochondrial DNA integrity and control immune responses
Abstract Pathogenic MSTO1 mutations cause cerebellar ataxia and congenital myopathy, yet their molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study identifies MSTO1 as a crucial regulator of mitochondrial genome integrity through direct interaction with RAD51. MSTO1 deficiency enhances RAD51 binding to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), disrupting mtDNA replication and causing mtDNA damage.

Changing practice of macular hole surgery in the UK (2017–2024) - Eye
Introduction Idiopathic full-thickness macular holes (iFTMHs) are a common cause of visual impairment in the UK. Recent Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) guidelines highlighted the importance of timely surgery and the benefits of internal limiting membrane (ILM) flaps in larger holes [1, 2]. To provide a baseline for future comparisons and to assess recent change pre and post COVID-pandemic, we carried out an audit using nationally collected data.
Exploration of the mechanism of anlotinib in reversing PD-1 immunotherapy resistance: insights from single-cell sequencing - Cancer Gene Therapy
Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting the PD-1/PD-L1 axis have revolutionized cancer therapy, yet primary and acquired resistance remain major clinical obstacles. Dysregulated angiogenesis fuels the development of an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, while crosstalk between immunity and angiogenesis further propels tumor immune evasion and treatment resistance.

Reflective terahertz metalens with hybrid phase design for high-efficiency off-axis focusing
A reflective terahertz metalens, optimized at 0.89 THz, capable of high-efficiency off-axis Bessel beam focusing is proposed and numerically demonstrated. The design utilizes a hybrid phase profile combining conical and hyperbolic components, computed using a vector-based formulation for precise wavefront control. Simulations confirm stable transverse confinement and an extended depth of focus exceeding 20 λ for deflection angles of 5°, 10°, and 15°.
Strongly chiral correlated second-order nonlinear optical effects in two-dimensional van der Waals In4/3P2Se6 nanosheets
We report a novel, to our knowledge, two-dimensional (2D) material, In4/3P2Se6, synthesized by the chemical vapor transport (CVT). Under 1064 nm laser excitation, In4/3P2Se6 exhibits exceptional second-harmonic generation (SHG) intensity twice that of monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). Furthermore, its intrinsic chirality and asymmetric centers facilitate strong interactions with circularly polarized light (CPL), resulting in pronounced second-harmonic generation circular dichroism (SHG-CD).

Broadband reflective terahertz metalens employing Bessel beams for enhanced efficiency and depth of focus
This paper presents a reflective terahertz (THz) Bessel metalens with broadband operation in the frequency range of 0.80–1 THz. The design employs a near-wavelength, polarization-insensitive resonator to achieve a wideband response. Optimized at 0.89 THz, the metalens integrates a hyperbolic phase configuration combined with a conical phase profile. By varying the cone angle, the metalens attains a focusing efficiency of up to 76% and an extended depth of focus of 21.7λ.

Lower ratio of IMPDH1 to IMPDH2 sensitizes gliomas to chemotherapy - Cancer Gene Therapy
Abstract Gliomas are the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system, with approximately half of patients presenting with the most aggressive form of glioblastoma. Although several molecular markers for glioma have been identified, they are not sufficient to predict the prognosis due to the extensive genetic heterogeneity within glioma. Our study reveals that the ratio of IMPDH1 to IMPDH2 expression levels serves as a molecular indicator for glioma treatment prognosis.

Study on Cavitation Bubble Characteristics in Centrifugal Pump Based on Image Recognition
1. Introduction A centrifugal pump uses a high-speed rotating impeller to pressurize liquid, then the liquid obtains speed and pressure energy at the impeller outlet and produces negative pressure at the impeller entrance, so as to continuously uptake the liquid. However, if the liquid pressure at the inlet of the impeller is lower than its saturated vapor pressure, the liquid will vaporize, and the cavitation bubble will initiate, develop, and collapse, which results in the cavitation phenomenon.

MBD1 protects replication fork stability by recruiting PARP1 and controlling transcription-replication conflicts - Cancer Gene Therapy
Abstract The replication-stress response is essential to ensure the faithful transmission of genetic information to daughter cells. Although several stress-resolution pathways have been identified to deal with replication stress, the precise regulatory mechanisms for replication fork stability are not fully understood. Our study identified Methyl-CpG Binding Domain 1 (MBD1) as essential for the maintaining genomic stability and protecting stalled replication forks in mammalian cells.
