Myeloid-derived suppressor cells in cancer: biology, regulatory networks and theranostic prospects
Abstract Despite the remarkable progress in cancer treatment, drug resistance and immune escape still severely limit clinical efficacy, largely due to tumor-induced immunosuppression. The main driver of this suppressive environment is myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs).

p53 hotspot mutants attenuate CTL-mediated tumor cell killing through a novel ALKBH5-YTHDF3-PD-L1 pathway
Abstract TP53 is a well-documented tumor suppressor gene frequently mutated in malignancies. It has been demonstrated that the gain-of-function (GOF) mutation of p53 promotes the development and progression of cancers; however, its extrinsic oncogenic mechanisms are still poorly understood. Herein, we found that the oncogenic effect of mutant p53 in vivo is dependent on the tumor immune microenvironment.
The glycolytic enzyme PGAM1 functions as a metabolic–autophagy checkpoint to coordinate growth and stress tolerance
|
Abstract Cell survival requires tight coordination between growth-promoting metabolism and cellular quality-control pathways, yet how these processes are integrated remains unclear. Here we identify the conserved glycolytic enzyme PGAM1 as a metabolic-autophagy checkpoint that links glycolysis to autophagy initiation independently of its catalytic activity.

Trapping a Trigonal Bipyramidal Cobalt(IV)-Oxo Species with an Exceptional Reactivity
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Metal-oxo complexes (MOs) are pivotal in oxidation chemistry for their ability to activate strong C–H bonds. Among them, the octahedral nonheme iron(IV)-oxo [Fe(IV)-oxo] complex, [(Me3NTB)FeIV(O)(X)]2+, stands out as one of the most reactive nonheme Fe(IV)-oxo species despite its triplet ground state, challenging the notion that quintet nonheme Fe(IV)-oxo complexes are inherently stronger oxidants.
Phylogeny-guided discovery of new antifungals
Fungal infections are increasing globally, with limited antifungal classes, drug toxicity issues, and the rapid emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR). By using a glycosyltransferase phylogeny-guided strategy, recently identified a new broad-spectrum polyene macrolide active against many fungal pathogens, with a novel mechanism of action and excellent safety profile. Trophic Plasticity of the Invasive Redbelly Tilapia (Coptodon zillii) in China Inferred From DNA Metabarcoding Analysis
1 Introduction Biological invasions are recognized as a major driver of biodiversity loss on a global scale (Butchart et al. 2010), placing severe stresses on terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems, with widespread ecological and economic impacts (Simberloff et al. 2013). Freshwater ecosystems have the highest concentration of species per unit surface area on Earth (Dudgeon et al. 2006); however, it is also one of the ecosystems most heavily invaded by exotic species (Moyle 2001).

Synthesis and structure of a non-van-der-Waals two-dimensional coordination polymer with superconductivity - Nature Communications
Abstract Two-dimensional conjugated coordination polymers exhibit remarkable charge transport properties, with copper-based benzenehexathiol (Cu-BHT) being a rare superconductor. However, the atomic structure of Cu-BHT has remained unresolved, hindering a deeper understanding of the superconductivity in such materials.
Charge-$4e$ and Charge-$6e$ Flux Quantization and Higher Charge Superconductivity in Kagome Superconductor Ring Devices
Popular Summary Superconductivity originates from the pairing up of electrons in what are called Cooper pairs. But theory also hints at fundamentally new types of superconducting states that could emerge from electron quartets (two Cooper pairs) or sextets (three Cooper pairs). Despite intensive theoretical studies, the basic properties of such states—and even the question of whether they exist—remain mysterious due to a lack of experimental evidence.

Apatinib plus etoposide in pretreated patients with advanced triple-negative breast cancer: a phase II trial - BMC Cancer
TNBC is associated with poor prognosis, especially for heavily pretreated patients [19]. Novel treatment strategies are urgently needed. In this study, TNBC patients who failed to at least one line of chemotherapy in the advanced setting were enrolled. The results showed that apatinib combined with etoposide was well-tolerated in most patients, and yielded an ORR of 10.0%, and a DCR of 62.5%. The median PFS and OS were 6.0 months and 24.5 months, respectively.

Sequential restoring O2 then unloading CO2 is beneficial against reperfusion injury: role of CO2 in metabolism
New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.01.26.525692 Abstract CO2 is one of main byproducts during mitochondrial oxidation. Under the acute occlusion of coronary artery situation, the intra-tissue pCO2 of heart could be extremely high. This CO2 accumulation will be acutely unloaded and discharged by blood reperfusion. However, the effect of this intra-tissue CO2 accumulation then unloading process on cardiac ischemic reperfusion injury has not been well investigated yet.

BM3D adaptive TV filtering-based convolutional neural network for ESPI image denoising
Abstract Image denoising is a fundamental part of image processing. The real electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) contains a large amount of speckle noise, which affects the image quality and adversely affects subsequent studies. In this paper, a method based on an improved denoising convolutional neural network (CNN) has been proposed, with the goal of reducing noise while maintaining accurate information.
Angiogenic markers could predict adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) have been a devastating actuality in clinic. However, the pre-onset risk factors, that correlated with pregnancy failure, including antiphospholipid antibodies (APLs) and angiogenic factors, remain unclear. A retrospective study was performed in this research, and data from 145 pregnant women were collected during their pregnancy. Patients were finally divided into non-APO group (n = 89) and APO group (n = 56) according to their pregnancy outcomes.

New therapies for acute RSV infections: where are we?
Review First Online: 04 January 2019 Abstract Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is one of the main causes of infant hospitalization and mortality. The single-stranded RNA virus codes for 11 proteins of which the F protein, a surface epitope responsible for RSV fusion, is the most targeted for developing antiviral medicines and vaccines. The peak of symptoms occurs around day 4 to 6 of illness and the airway obstruction is merely caused by the host immune inflammatory response.

Body fat percentage cutoffs for risk of cardiometabolic abnormalities in the Chinese adult population: a nationwide study
The direct assessment of body fat (BF) by using simple methods might be an alternative index of obesity. We aim to investigate the optimal cutoffs of the %BF relating to metabolic disorders and cardiovascular risks in China. The data were from the 2007–2008 China National Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Study. Participants with age of 20–75 years and with a BF measurement record were included. The %BF was measured using a foot-to-foot bioelectrical impedance analysis.
Netrin-1 restores cell injury and impaired angiogenesis in vascular endothelial cells upon high glucose by PI3K/AKT-eNOS
Diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) represents a common vascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) with high morbidity and disability resulting from amputation. Netrin-1 level was decreased in type 2 DM patients and has been identified as a protective regulator against diabetes-triggered myocardial infarction and nephropathy. Unfortunately, its role and molecular mechanism in DFU remain poorly elucidated.
