One never knows when disaster will strike. For Jacob Mahoney, that fateful day was his day off: February 24. He'd been running errands with his four-year-old son when a teen, careening through town in a stolen car, t-boned his SUV. "Out of nowhere I was hit," Mahoney said. "I remember some sort of spinning. Like being thrown into the air a little bit. Spinning...My brain was like...what is happening? There was just huge confusion in those initial seconds." Mahoney had no idea what hit him.

"Please call me Karlyn," said Kalamazoo College President-Elect Dr. Karlyn Crowley as she sat down for an interview with Newschannel 3 anchor and "K" college alum Andy Dominianni on her first morning touring campus. The elite private college's incoming 19th president was in Kalamazoo on Monday for a meet and greet with the students and staff and was already extolling the virtues of both "K" and liberal arts educations overall. "It's a dream job!" said Dr. Crowley.

U.S. Labor Secretary visits Kalamazoo-area skilled trades training facility

U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer was in West Michigan Monday, touring a trades training facility operated by Pro Services Inc. in Portage. Pro Academy offers a state-licensed apprenticeship program for Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Journeyman certification. "One million active apprentices was one of the very first executive orders the President said," recounted Secretary Chavez-DeRemer.
