Filming of new Stan mystery thriller Two Birds in Boulder fuels call for real-life police presence
Daniel Holmes For three days this year, locals in the historic main street of Boulder, in Western Australia's Goldfields, got a glimpse of what it would be like with a police station back in town. There was just one problem — the station was not real. Boulder's heritage-listed courthouse had been transformed into a fictional police station for the upcoming Stan crime series Two Birds, which has been filming in the region.
An integrated, scaled approach to resolve TSC2 variants of uncertain significance
|
Abstract Obtaining a precise genetic tuberous sclerosis complex diagnosis is a challenge as many missense TSC2 variants are variants of uncertain significance. Results VIS-seq is a platform for pooled, image-based profiling of thousands of transgenically expressed protein-coding variants (Figure 1A). VIS-seq comprises a cassette with a promoter expressing the protein variant and a second promoter expressing an abundant circular RNA,25,26 which contains one or more barcodes that are sequenced in situ to reveal the identity of the variant expressed in each cell (Figure 1B).

How Thai stand-up comedy is learning to stand on its own
Photo via the author Daniel Holmes Stand-up comedy in Thailand is young, unstable, and quietly interesting. It does not follow the American club system or the British circuit model. There are no clear ladders, few sponsors, and almost no shared language for what stand-up is supposed to be. And yet, it is growing slowly, improvising as it goes.

Search Google for “What are they building with those giant poles?” and you’ll find confused citizens all the way from Fishers, Indiana, to Charlotte, North Carolina, asking the same question that has been puzzling passers-by in Garden City lately. In all cases, the answer is the same: Top Golf. But what is Top Golf? “It’s not a golf course or a driving range” says Kelly Coates, taking the two most obvious answers out of the running.

A CRISPR-Cas9 screen identifies mitochondrial translation as an essential process in latent KSHV infection of human endothelial cells
Significance Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is the causative agent of Kaposi’s sarcoma, one of the most common neoplasms in sub-Saharan Africa.
