Peoria woman, charged with murdering girlfriend, to stay in jail before trial

PEORIA (25News Now) - A Peoria woman, accused of stabbing her girlfriend to death last week, will stay in jail while she waits for her trial. Associate Judge Daniel Cordis on Monday granted the state’s request to keep Keonta Williams, who is 31, detained for the June 2 killing of 36-year-old Catherine Walker-Thomas. Peoria Police said they found Walker-Thomas outside the Heartland Apartments on North Hightower Street with a stab wound to her back. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

ISU’s Laurie Metcalf earns Tony Award on Broadway’s biggest night

NEW YORK (AP and 25News Now)- Laurie Metcalf, a 1976 graduate of Illinois State University, is taking home her third Tony Award, Broadway theater’s top honor. The Edwardsville, Illinois native who majored in theater at ISU, won the Tony Award Sunday night for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play. Metcalf’s latest honor was for her performance in Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman," which depicts the unraveling of the American Dream.
