Skip to content Temperatures this evening are coming in in the upper 70s and low 80s. Temperatures the past two weeks have been pretty opposite of each other. Two weeks ago, we had a nice stretch of below average weather, with highs well below average nearly every day. Last week, however, was way warmer than what we’ve seen for most of the summer, as a heat dome set up along the eastern half of the US, bringing us a 90 degree day on Friday and some free lemonade here in Bluefield.

Skip to content Sadly, Bluefield didn’t hit 90 degrees at the Mercer County Airport on Thursday, which means no lemonade. We made it to 88, but still fell short. Today will likely be our last shot unless we can hold on to enough heat on the 4th of July.

Skip to content A Heat Advisory is in effect from now through 10 PM Friday for Buchanan, McDowell, Wyoming, western Raleigh, and western Fayette counties. Afternoon heat index values will approach or exceed 100 at times over all but the higher elevations, and some valley locations may see heat index values exceed 105. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
